Vastu Consultant for Homes in Singapore
Homes in Singapore are compact, carefully planned and hard to change: an HDB flat off a shared corridor, a condominium apartment with a fixed open kitchen. Dr. Kimaya Parikh-Ambekar reviews them for Indian families on a site visit or online, from a floor plan, compass readings and photographs, with remedies that need no renovation.

01
Does Vastu apply to a flat in Singapore?
Yes. Singapore sits just north of the equator, but the compass reads the same as anywhere else, so the North-East is still the place for the mandir, the South-East for the kitchen and the South-West for the main bedroom.
The difference lies in the buildings and the climate. Flats here are efficient and built to repeatable plans, plumbing and kitchens are fixed, and alterations follow rules set for each building. Vastu works within that, which is why everything recommended is placement, colour, light and portable remedies. The article on apartments in Dubai, Singapore and London compares how the same principles meet very different towers.
02
How does the equatorial sun affect a Singapore home?
It makes the East and West walls matter more than the North and South. Near the equator the sun climbs almost straight overhead at midday and rises and sets close to due East and due West all year, drifting only a little to the north or south with the seasons.
So a flat's East side takes the gentle morning sun, which Vastu welcomes, while the West side takes hard afternoon heat. North and South windows get softer, steadier light. This sits well with Vastu's preference for openness in the North and East and solidity in the South and West.
01
West-facing rooms
Use blinds or curtains in the afternoon, keep the room for storage or evening use where you can, and do not worry about the label; see is a West-facing flat unlucky?
02
East windows
Keep them clear of heavy furniture and clutter, so the morning light reaches the room.
03
The centre
With light coming mostly from the sides, the middle of a flat can be dim; keep the ब्रह्मस्थान (Brahmasthan, the centre) open and well lit.
03
How does Vastu read an HDB flat?
As a compact home where every zone counts. Most HDB flats open onto a common corridor shared with neighbours, with the kitchen and service yard on one side and bedrooms along the other, and many newer flats include a household shelter that families use as a storeroom.
The entrance comes first. Keep your stretch of corridor and the threshold clean, bright and free of shoe piles, and give the door its own identity with a name plate or toran. A neighbour's door directly opposite is common here and is no cause for worry. Inside, keep the North-East light and uncluttered even if it is only a corner, keep heavier storage to the South and West, and sleep with your head towards South or East.
Renovation in HDB flats follows rules set for the building, so check them before any work. Nothing recommended in a Vastu report here needs it.
04
What about condominium apartments?
A condominium is read the same way, with attention to features that come with it. Open kitchens along one wall are usual, and the hob cannot move, so the levers are the direction you face while cooking, keeping the hob and sink apart, and defining the kitchen zone with light or a rug.
Bay windows, balconies and large panes of glass bring light and heat in equal measure. Curtains, earthy colours and solid furniture in the South-West help a high-floor unit feel settled; Vastu for high-rise apartments covers lifts and upper floors. The condo's management sets its own rules for alterations and the use of common areas, and the remedies suggested stay inside your unit.
05
How do you manage Vastu with constant humidity?
By treating fresh, dry air as part of the remedy. Singapore's humidity barely changes through the year, bedrooms often stay shut with the air-conditioner on, and wardrobes and corners can develop mould.
Open windows in the cooler early morning, use fans to move air when the air-conditioner is off, and run a dehumidifier in rooms that smell musty. Deal with any damp patch practically before placing anything there, especially in the North-East, which should stay clean and dry. Salt bowls used as a remedy absorb moisture quickly here, so change the salt often, and keep crystals dry and dusted. Good air is प्राण (prana, life energy) in the most practical sense.
06
Where should the mandir go, and how do you light diyas safely in a Singapore flat?
The mandir goes in the North-East, ईशान्य (Ishanya), and in a compact flat a clean wall shelf or a small closed unit is enough. Avoid a wall shared with a toilet, and keep it at a sensible height.
Many homes have smoke detectors or fire alarms, and buildings set their own rules about open flames and about decorations in the common corridor. Keep a real diya small and supervised inside the flat, away from curtains and the alarm, never disable an alarm, and use electric diyas where flames are not allowed. Check with your building before placing lamps, rangoli or decorations outside the door.
Deepavali is a public holiday in Singapore and Little India is lit up for the season, so the festival feels close to home. Keep the entrance clean and lit for Lakshmi Puja and follow the muhurat for Singapore; see celebrating Diwali abroad.

How do site visits and online sessions work from Singapore, and when should you book?
For an online session, almost any evening or Saturday works, because Singapore is 2 h 30 min ahead of IST all year and neither country changes its clocks. Sessions run Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 7 pm IST, which is 11:30 am to 9:30 pm in Singapore, so a slot after work starting by about 8 pm is straightforward, as is a Saturday afternoon.
You can choose either format. Dr. Kimaya travels to Singapore for site visits, arranged on the free first call; the VastuKimaya office is in Andheri East, Mumbai. For an online consultation by video call, send a floor plan with North marked, compass readings taken inside the main door facing out, and photographs of every room, the corridor and the view from the windows. The preparation checklist lists the rest, Dr. Kimaya studies everything before the call, and the written report follows, the same as after a visit.
Call or WhatsApp +91 70391 07512, or write to stayblessed@vastukimaya.com. The first call is free, sessions are in English, Hindi, Marathi or Gujarati, and the online Vastu consultation page explains every step.

प्रश्न Questions
Common questions about Singapore
Is a West-facing HDB flat bad?
No. Every direction has strengths and workable remedies. A West-facing flat takes strong afternoon sun in Singapore, so blinds, plants and the use of each room matter, and the main door is judged by its exact position along the wall rather than by the facing alone.
My door faces my neighbour's across the corridor. Does that matter?
It is very common in HDB blocks and not a cause for worry. Keep your threshold clean, bright and free of shoes and clutter, and give your entrance its own identity with a name plate or a toran, within your building's rules.
Do I need approval for Vastu remedies in my flat or condo?
Not for the remedies themselves, which are non-structural: placement, colour, light, plants, crystals and pyramids. Any renovation work follows the rules set for your building, but nothing in a Vastu report here requires building work.
What time should I book from Singapore?
An evening or a Saturday. The 9 am to 7 pm IST session hours run from 11:30 am to 9:30 pm in Singapore all year, so a weekday slot starting by about 8 pm, or a Saturday afternoon, works well.
Can Vastu help in a compact three-room flat?
Yes. Even a small flat has every zone, and most remedies are about using them well: bed direction, a clear North-East for the mandir, an open centre, cooking facing East and heavier storage to the South and West.
