Vastu Consultant for Chennai Flats and Houses: Site Visit or Online
Dr. Kimaya Parikh-Ambekar consults for families in Chennai, either on a site visit or online from floor plans, compass readings and photographs, for apartments and independent houses. In a city of strong sun, sea breeze and late-year rain, the advice is shaped as much by climate as by direction.

01
What kinds of Chennai homes can get Vastu guidance online?
Apartments, promoter-built flats and independent houses can all be read online from a clear plan and photographs. A great deal of Chennai's housing is in compact apartment buildings of a few floors, often built where an older house once stood, alongside large projects along the IT corridor of the Old Mahabalipuram Road and houses towards the East Coast Road.
Established neighbourhoods still have independent houses, some with deep front verandahs, open inner spaces and rooms added over the decades. A flat buyer usually wants to know which unit to pick; a family in an older house wants to know how to live well in a layout that cannot easily change. Both are questions Dr. Kimaya answers from your drawings.
02
How does Chennai's heat change the Vastu advice?
Chennai's strong afternoon sun comes from the West and South-West, and those are exactly the sides Vastu already asks you to keep heavier and more closed. That is a happy match: thicker walls, wardrobes, storage and fewer, smaller openings on the West and South-West keep a home cooler and satisfy नैऋत्य (Nairutya, the zone of earth and stability) at the same time.
The East and North are the sides to open up. Morning light from the East is gentle, and the sea breeze that often arrives from the East in the afternoon is something to welcome through windows and balconies on that side. A West-facing flat is not unlucky; it simply needs curtains, heavier furniture on the West and a bright North-East inside. See West-facing flat Vastu and light and fresh air in Vastu.
03
Why does the North-East monsoon matter for a Chennai home's Vastu?
Because Chennai's heaviest rain comes from the North-East monsoon, roughly between October and December, and it lands on the very corner Vastu most wants clean, open and dry. ईशान्य (Ishanya, the North-East) is the zone of water in its gentle, purifying sense, of clarity and of prayer, so seepage, damp walls and leaking windows there are worth repairing before the season rather than after.
A few checks before the rains help both the building and its Vastu balance:
01
Waterproof the North-East
Look for damp patches behind the pooja shelf, cupboards and window frames on that side.
02
Let water leave
Vastu prefers slopes towards the North or East, but water must drain away from the house, never pool against it.
03
Secure balconies
Before stormy weather, bring in loose planters and fittings, especially on high, exposed balconies.
04
Dry the storage
Damp, musty storage in the South-West undoes the steady feeling that zone is meant to give.
04
Can a Vastu consultant check a Chennai flat before I book it?
Yes, and before booking is the most useful time. In smaller buildings with one or two flats a floor, units on the same floor can be mirror images of each other, so the entrance, kitchen and toilets fall in quite different zones. Ask the promoter for the unit plan and a site plan with a north arrow, and compare shortlisted flats side by side.
Dr. Kimaya looks at the main door's exact pada, whether the kitchen sits in the South-East or North-West, the master bedroom's place in the South-West, and any toilet in the North-East or at the centre. The floor you live on matters less than many people expect; see floor number and Vastu. The flat and plot selection service is built for this comparison.
05
What do older Chennai independent houses usually need?
Mostly a fresh reading of how each room is used, rather than any building work. Houses extended over the years often end up with a kitchen moved, a toilet added at the back, or a staircase built wherever there was space. The usual remedy is a change of use, such as turning a North-East storeroom into a prayer or reading room, plus colour, metal strips and lighting where a zone needs support.
Roads deserve attention too. A street that ends straight at your gate is not automatically a problem; its position decides whether it is welcomed or needs care, as explained in veedhi shoola remedies. For gates, compound walls and gardens, see bungalow Vastu.
06
Which Chennai home traditions connect with Vastu?
The daily kolam at the threshold is the clearest example: it marks the entrance as a clean, welcoming place, which is where Vastu begins its reading of a home. Read more in rangoli at the entrance.
Bhogi, at the start of Pongal, clears out what is old and worn, much like a Vastu decluttering. At Karthigai Deepam, lamps along the entrance and windows bring light into every corner, and during Navaratri a golu can be arranged, where space allows, towards the North-East or East of the living room with the area kept bright. Some families also ask about Manaiyadi Sastram, the Tamil tradition of house measurements; Dr. Kimaya works with Vastu's directions and zones, and will say plainly if a question falls outside her practice.
07
How does a Vastu consultation for Chennai work, in person or online?
It begins with a free first call on +91 70391 07512, where you choose a site visit or an online consultation; for a visit, Dr. Kimaya travels to Chennai on dates arranged on that call. Online, you send the floor plan with North marked, photographs or a short video of each room and compass readings from just inside the main door. Dr. Kimaya studies them before you meet again, explains her findings on a video call, and sends a written report of non-structural remedies, with follow-up as you apply them.
Sessions run Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 7 pm IST, in English, Hindi, Marathi or Gujarati; Tamil is not offered, so most Chennai families choose English. The Vastu consultation across India and abroad page sets out every step.

प्रश्न Questions
Common questions about Chennai
Is a West-facing flat in Chennai bad because of the afternoon heat?
No. The heat is a comfort question rather than a Vastu verdict. The West is linked with Varuna and the results of effort; a West-facing flat is balanced with curtains, heavier furniture on that side and a bright, open North-East inside.
What should I do about damp in the North-East corner during the monsoon?
Repair the cause first: waterproofing, window seals or plumbing. Then keep the corner clean, dry, light and uncluttered. Damp in the North-East is worth treating promptly because that zone is meant to feel fresh and clear.
Where should the golu be kept as per Vastu?
Where space allows, in the North-East or East part of the living room or near the pooja space, kept bright and clean. If that is not possible, any respectful, well-lit spot away from toilets and clutter is fine.
Is Manaiyadi Sastram the same as Vastu?
They are related but not the same. Manaiyadi Sastram is a Tamil tradition largely concerned with house measurements, while Dr. Kimaya's consultations work with Vastu's directions, zones and elements. She will tell you plainly which questions she can help with.
Can I take the online session in Tamil?
Not at present. Sessions are offered in English, Hindi, Marathi and Gujarati, and most Chennai families choose English. Written reports are clear and practical, so you can share them with family members.
Will Dr. Kimaya visit my Chennai home in person?
Yes, if you would like a visit. She travels to Chennai and other cities for site visits, and the dates are arranged on the free first call. Many Chennai flats are also handled fully online from a clear plan and photographs, with the same written report.
