01

Can Vastu for an Ahmedabad home be done online?

Yes. A floor plan with North marked, photographs of each room and compass readings you take at the main door let Dr. Kimaya map every zone of an Ahmedabad home without being there. VastuKimaya's only office is in Andheri East, Mumbai. An online consultation happens by phone, email and video call, and if you would rather have a site visit, Dr. Kimaya travels to Ahmedabad for one.

Ahmedabad's homes span centuries. The old city has its pols, the western suburbs have housing societies of bungalows and tenements, and newer corridors such as the SG Highway and SP Ring Road are lined with towers. Gandhinagar, a planned capital laid out in numbered sectors, adds independent houses on regular plots. The method is the same for all of them; the questions are not.

02

How is Vastu read for a house in the old city's pols?

A pol house is read from its own door and its own centre, even though it shares walls and a lane with its neighbours. Pols are clusters of homes along narrow streets, often behind a shared gateway, with houses built wall to wall, so light and air reach most rooms only from the front, the back and an inner courtyard.

That courtyard, the chowk, is the most valuable part of the house in Vastu terms. It keeps the ब्रह्मस्थान (Brahmasthan, the centre) open to the sky, which is exactly what Vastu asks for. Keep it clear of heavy storage, parked scooters and old furniture, and let it stay the light, shared heart of the home.

Some older pol houses also have an underground tank for rainwater beneath the floor. Underground water sits well in the North, North-East or East; if yours lies elsewhere, keep it clean, sealed and leak-free and balance it with remedies rather than breaking it up. The guide to water tank Vastu explains the options.

03

What should bungalows and tenements in Ahmedabad check?

Both are independent homes, so the gate, compound and terrace matter as much as the rooms inside. In a society bungalow, a gate in the North, East or North-East is generally favourable, the compound wall is kept higher on the South and West, and the garden and lawn sit more comfortably on the North and East. The guide to main gate and compound wall Vastu covers the gate in detail.

Tenements, the row houses common in Ahmedabad societies, share side walls with their neighbours and get light from the front and back only. Keeping the passage through the middle bright and uncluttered, and placing the internal staircase in the South, South-West or West where there is a choice, make a real difference.

Older bungalows and tenements often carry additions made over the years: a room built on the terrace, a toilet squeezed into a corner, a kitchen moved for space. These are rarely undone. A change of use, such as turning a North-East store into a prayer or reading space, often does more than any construction.

04

What should you check before buying a new flat in Ahmedabad?

Check the entrance, kitchen, master bedroom, toilets and shape of each unit against true North before you pay a token amount. In the large projects along the SG Highway and similar corridors, one plan is often repeated and turned in different directions, so two flats on the same floor can face opposite ways.

Ask the developer for the site plan with a north arrow, not only the unit brochure, and think about the afternoon sun as well as the directions. A flat whose living room and bedrooms open West with wide glass will take the full heat of a Gujarat afternoon. Our site, flat and plot selection service compares shortlisted units side by side, with a fresh compass check once you take possession.

05

How does Ahmedabad's heat change Vastu advice?

It makes the West and South-West the sides to shield and the North and East the sides to open. Ahmedabad's summers are long, hot and dry, and the afternoon sun bears down on western walls, which is why Vastu's preference for smaller openings and heavier structures on the South and West feels so practical here.

Open the East windows early, while the morning air is still cool. Through the afternoon, keep blinds or heavy curtains drawn on the West and South-West, choose light colours for exposed walls, and let tall cupboards and heavy furniture stand along those sides, where Vastu wants weight anyway. In bungalows, tall trees on the South and West give shade and suit Vastu at the same time.

The thick walls and inner courtyards of the old pols were a traditional answer to the same heat. In a modern flat, a clutter-free centre and cross-ventilation between North and South openings do part of that work.

06

How do Uttarayan and other Gujarati traditions touch the home?

Uttarayan turns the terrace into the family's gathering place for a day or two each January, so it deserves the same care as any room. Before the festival, clean the terrace and keep its North-East open and light. Put speakers, food tables and water drums along the South and West, check parapets and railings, and keep small children well away from the edges and from loose manja. The guide to Makar Sankranti and Vastu covers welcoming the morning sun and safe kite flying.

    Chopda Pujan for business families

At Diwali, set the puja in the North-East or North of the shop or office, facing North or East, with the locker opening towards the North. See Chopda Pujan and Vastu.

  • 02

The hichko in the living room

If your home has a swing, keep it away from the exact centre and out of the path of the main door, so the Brahmasthan stays open and movement does not crowd the entrance.

How does an online consultation work from Ahmedabad?

It works in your language and your time zone: Gujarati, Hindi, English or Marathi, Monday to Saturday between 9 am and 7 pm IST. Many families prefer to speak in Gujarati, especially when elders join the call, and that is welcome.

You send the floor plan, three compass readings taken just inside the main door and photographs of every room. The online consultation checklist lists what to gather. Dr. Kimaya studies the material first, discusses it with you on a video call and then sends a written report, with follow-up while you apply the remedies. The Vastu consultation across India and abroad page explains both options.

If you would rather Dr. Kimaya saw the home in person, she travels to Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar for site visits, and the dates are arranged on the free first call. The analysis and the written report are the same as online.

प्रश्न Questions

Common questions about Ahmedabad

Can the Vastu consultation be done in Gujarati?

Yes. Consultations are held in Gujarati, Hindi, English or Marathi, and the written report can be discussed in whichever language the family is most comfortable with. Mention your preference when you book the free first call on +91 70391 07512 or at [email protected].

Is the open courtyard of a pol house good as per Vastu?

Generally, yes. An open, light centre is exactly what Vastu asks of the Brahmasthan, and a courtyard provides it naturally. Keep it clean and free of heavy storage, vehicles and clutter. If the courtyard has been roofed over, keep the covered centre bright and uncluttered instead of reopening it.

Is a west-facing bungalow a problem in Ahmedabad's heat?

No, not from a Vastu point of view. The West is linked with gains and the results of effort, and a west-facing home is balanced with the right gate position and layout. The heat is handled practically, with shading, curtains, light-coloured walls and tall trees on the West, which suit Vastu as well.

How should the terrace be prepared for Uttarayan?

Clean it a few days ahead and keep the North-East corner open and light. Place speakers, food tables and water drums along the South and West, check parapets and railings, and keep children away from the edges and loose kite string. Afterwards, clear the debris before it collects in drains and corners.

Can you check a flat on the SG Highway before I pay the token?

Yes. Share the brochure, unit plans and the site plan with a north arrow, and Dr. Kimaya compares your shortlisted units on entrance, kitchen, master bedroom, toilets and shape. Brochure drawings are not always drawn to true north, so the directions are checked again with a compass after possession.

Does Dr. Kimaya visit homes in Ahmedabad or Gandhinagar?

Yes. She travels to Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and other cities for site visits, and the dates are arranged on the free first call. If you prefer, the consultation can be held online by video call instead, with the same analysis and written report. VastuKimaya's only office is in Andheri East, Mumbai.
