Residential Vastu

01

No Vastu Is Perfect

Every home shows some form of imbalance among the five elements. Depending on the type of imbalance, residents can face issues that do not get resolved even with a great deal of effort and time.

That is exactly when it is worth having your Vastu checked.

Key Areas We Check in a Flat

Due to limited space, many modern flats do not comply with Vastu principles, and structural changes are usually difficult — which makes the remedial side of Vastu Shastra all the more important. These areas need to be checked thoroughly for a happy and healthy home:

  • Main entrance

One of the most important parts of Vastu — the energy entering here sets the tone of the home. Every major direction is divided into 8 parts, and only two parts in each direction are good for the main entrance, so this area should be checked by an expert.

  • Bathrooms and toilets

In newer construction, toilets and bathrooms are usually combined. If separate, a bathroom is good in the East, or at least in the South or West, with the person facing East. Toilets should not be in the North-East or North.

  • Kitchen

The kitchen should never be in the North. The best direction for the kitchen is South-East.

  • Master bedroom

The most appropriate direction is South-West, which brings stability to the family.

  • Hall / drawing room

Ideally North, East or North-East — it encourages meaningful, fruitful discussions, good social connections and new opportunities.

  • Mandir / pooja room

The best direction is North-East. Praying in this direction brings clarity of mind.

04

Beyond the Main Rooms

Residents should also consider the children's bedroom, elders' room, study room, guest room, staff room, pet area, bar, store room and water storage, to name a few.

05

Planning a Bungalow

Everyone dreams of building their own bungalow, and the journey starts with choosing the right plot. Many things need to be checked before building on a plot — first, a consultant identifies the water source on the land, and the directions of other parts of the home are decided accordingly.

  • Water sources
  • Slope of the land
  • Location of the land
  • Roads around the plot and their directions
  • Hills or mountains around the plot
  • Large trees around the property
  • Temples or other religious places, schools, hospitals or cemeteries near the plot

Planning by the 16 Directions

After checking all of the above, the bungalow can be planned according to the 16 directions.

No. While Vastu is commonly associated with homes, its principles also apply to offices, shops, factories and other environments.

It depends on your needs and circumstances, but periodic check-ins — especially after renovations or major life changes — help maintain positive energy flow.

The South-West is the most appropriate direction for the master bedroom, as it brings stability to the family. In the same way, the kitchen is ideally in the South-East and the mandir in the North-East.
