How to Prepare for an Online Consultation: A Checklist

Twenty minutes of preparation changes what an online session can do. Here is what to gather, what to write down and how to set up the room, whichever service you have booked.

How to Prepare for an Online Consultation: A Checklist

01

Why does preparation matter so much online?

Because a screen removes the small cues that carry a conversation in a room — the pause before you answer, the glance at a doorway, the way you sit. Preparation replaces them with clarity: a question already thought about, information already sent, and a space where you can speak without editing yourself.

It also protects the time. A session that begins with ten minutes of hunting for a floor plan or restarting an application has lost ten minutes of the thing you came for.

None of this is elaborate. Twenty unhurried minutes the day before is enough for any of these services.

02

What to send before the call

This varies by service, and sending it in advance is the single most useful thing you can do, because it lets the analysis happen before you meet rather than during.

  • 01

    For a Vastu consultation

A floor plan, compass readings taken inside the main door facing out, photographs of every room and of the entrance from outside, and a note on where beds, the cooking platform, water, toilets and the locker sit.

  • 02

    For numerology

Your full name exactly as written, any earlier or alternative spellings, and your date of birth with the month in words to avoid date-format confusion.

  • 03

    For a tarot reading

Nothing in advance except your question. Readings are for adults aged 18 and over, and the spread is agreed on the first call.

  • 04

    For distance Reiki

A short note on what you would like support with, any treatment currently in progress, and confirmation of the exact time in both clocks.

  • 05

    For crystal guidance

Photographs of the rooms concerned and a list of any stones you already own, so you are not advised to buy what is already in a drawer.

  • 06

    Always

Your city and time zone, and the language you would prefer — English, Hindi, Marathi or Gujarati.

03

How do you get the question right?

Write it in one sentence. If it takes a paragraph, there are probably three questions inside it, and choosing which one matters is work worth doing before the call rather than during it.

Prefer questions you can act on. 'What should I do about the bedroom my son will not sleep in?' is answerable. 'Will things get better this year?' is not, and no honest consultant will pretend otherwise.

Then write the two or three things you would count as a useful outcome. People often arrive with a vague hope and leave with a vague feeling; naming what you actually need is what turns a session into something you can use.

04

How should you set up the room?

Treat it as an appointment. The physical setup takes five minutes and makes a visible difference to how the hour goes.

  • 01

    A door you can shut

If you can be overheard, you will hold back. This matters more than anything else on the list.

  • 02

    A tested connection

Check camera, microphone and signal the day before, not at the appointed minute. Keep a phone number exchanged as a fallback.

  • 03

    Headphones

They help you catch tone and keep the conversation private in a shared flat.

  • 04

    Notifications silenced

Phone on silent, not vibrate. Close other tabs. A session interrupted three times is not a session.

  • 05

    The documents open

Have the floor plan or your notes on a second screen or printed beside you, so you can follow along without sharing your whole desktop.

  • 06

    Pen and paper

Write as you go. What strikes you in the moment is easy to lose by the evening, and typing pulls your attention away from listening.

05

How much time should you keep free?

More than the session itself. Keep a buffer of at least twenty minutes afterwards so you are not ending mid-thought to join another call.

The expected length for your particular session is confirmed on the first call, which is free, along with the timing and the arrangements. If you are abroad, write the slot in both clocks — '7:00 pm IST / 9:30 am New York, Saturday 11 October' — because India does not observe daylight saving and your own clocks may have moved since you last spoke.

For a distance Reiki session, keep the quiet time afterwards as well. You will not want to drive or take a call immediately, and a few minutes of शांति (shanti, peace) is part of the session rather than an extra.

06

Who else should be on the call?

For a home or office consultation, whoever will actually implement the changes. A remedy plan explained to one person and relayed inaccurately to another is a common reason things do not get done.

For a tarot reading, only you. The point is a conversation you can be honest in, and an audience makes that harder — even a supportive one. Readings are for adults aged 18 and over.

For anything involving a shared household, agree beforehand who is speaking. A call where four people talk over each other across a bad connection helps nobody.

07

What should you do afterwards?

Write three lines the same day: what you understood, what you agreed to do first, and what you are unsure about. Do it before the evening, while the session is still clear.

Then start with one change rather than all of them. A remedy plan is usually sequenced deliberately, and doing everything in a weekend makes it impossible to tell what helped.

Keep the written report where you will actually find it, and note down your questions as they come up so the follow-up conversation has something to work with. If something in the plan turns out to be impractical in your home, say so plainly — a remedy you cannot live with is not a remedy.

Questions

Frequently asked

What should I send before an online Vastu consultation?

A floor plan, compass readings taken inside the main door facing out, photographs of every room and the entrance, and a note on where beds, cooking, water and toilets sit.

How long should I keep free for the session?

The session itself plus a buffer of at least twenty minutes. The expected length is confirmed on the free first call, so you can block the time properly.

Do I need any special software or equipment?

A device with a working camera and microphone, a stable connection and headphones. Test everything the day before and exchange a phone number as a fallback.

Can my family join the call?

For a home or office consultation, yes — ideally whoever will implement the changes. A tarot reading is better taken alone, as honesty is harder with an audience.

What if I am not sure what my question is?

Say so. Shaping the question is part of the first call, which is free. Bringing a rough description of what is not working is enough to begin with.

What should I do immediately after the session?

Write three lines the same day: what you understood, what you will do first, and what is still unclear. Then begin with one change rather than all of them.
