Vastu Consultant for Homes in Dubai and the UAE

Dr. Kimaya Parikh-Ambekar consults for families living in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and across the UAE, travelling for a site visit or working online, whichever you prefer. Apartments, villas and townhouses here are built for heat, glass and air-conditioning, and Vastu has to be applied to that reality rather than to an Indian floor plan.

01

Does Vastu apply to a home in Dubai?

Yes. Directions are absolute, so a compass in a Dubai apartment reads the same North as one in Mumbai, and the principles that follow from it, where fire, water, sleep and prayer belong, travel with you. What changes is the building, and UAE homes are very different from the flats most Indian Vastu advice was written for.

The guide to Vastu for NRI homes abroad explains what transfers unchanged and what needs rethinking. This page looks at the questions particular to the UAE: towers, villas and townhouses, the heat, sealed air, and keeping a mandir and festivals in a home far from India.

02

What should you check in a Dubai apartment?

Start with the entrance, the kitchen and the master bedroom, then look at the tower's quirks. Many UAE towers have curved facades, angled corners and wedge-shaped units, so the Vastu grid does not sit neatly on the plan and placing each zone takes more care than in a rectangular flat.

Kitchens are often closed galley units with a fixed hob, which shifts the work to the direction you face while cooking, plus colour, light and placement. Balconies are frequently glazed in or rarely used in summer. The guide to apartments in Dubai, Singapore and London covers these in more detail.

  • 01

    The maid's room

Many apartments have one beside the kitchen or service entrance. Read its zone before deciding its use; a store packed with suitcases is better away from the North-East.

  • 02

Compass readings in steel and glass

Phones drift near metal frames and electronics. Take three readings inside the main door, away from the frame, and send all of them.

  • 03

A shared lift or stair wall

If one adjoins a bedroom, moving the bed away from that wall is a sensible first step.

03

How is Vastu applied to villas and townhouses?

A villa is read as a plot as well as a house: the gate, garden, pool, parking and internal stairs all count. Water, including a pool or fountain, sits more comfortably in the North, North-East or East. A pool elsewhere is balanced with remedies around it and by keeping the South-West of the house heavy and settled; nobody is asked to fill it in.

Townhouses share side walls and take light from the front and back, so a bright, uncluttered middle matters. In both, the internal staircase is better in the South, South-West or West than the North-East. Many families come and go through the garage or kitchen door; use the main door regularly too, and keep its approach clear and well lit.

Community and building rules often limit changes to the outside of a home, which is one more reason the remedies here are non-structural.

04

How do heat and air-conditioning change Vastu in the UAE?

They turn light, air and glare into the practical issues. For much of the year UAE homes stay sealed with the air-conditioning running, so the fresh air Vastu values has to be brought in deliberately rather than left to open windows.

Open the windows in the cooler months and early mornings, keep kitchen and bathroom exhausts working, and keep the North-West, the zone of वायु (Vayu, the air element), free of clutter. Sheer and blackout curtains on the West and South-West tame the afternoon glare, and heavier furniture along those walls keeps the home grounded. Fine dust settles quickly, so a clean entrance and a clean North-East are part of the weekly routine, not a festival task.

05

How can a Hindu family keep a mandir and festivals in a UAE home?

A small mandir in the North-East of the home, with you facing East or North while you pray, works in any apartment or villa. If the North-East is a bathroom or a wardrobe wall, a clean shelf in the North-East of the living room is a simple alternative.

Many buildings have sensitive smoke detectors and rules about open flames. Light a diya briefly with ventilation, keep incense away from detectors, or use electric lamps where flames are not allowed. Follow the muhurat calculated for your own city rather than India's. The guide to celebrating Diwali abroad covers the festive week, and a Griha Pravesh for a new home can be planned during the consultation itself.

06

Is Vastu worth doing in a rented home you may leave?

Yes, because every remedy used here is portable. Many families in the UAE rent and move every few years, and a plan that assumed twenty years in one home would be no use to them.

Bed placement, sleeping direction, desk direction, colour in soft furnishings, lighting, crystals and activated pyramids all travel with you and leave nothing behind for the landlord. The guide to Vastu for rented flats lists what works. If you are about to sign, a quick comparison of two or three shortlisted plans before you commit is often the most useful step of all.

07

What time are online sessions in UAE time?

Sessions run from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm UAE time, Monday to Saturday. The UAE is 1 hour 30 minutes behind Indian Standard Time all year, and neither country changes its clocks, so the 9 am to 7 pm IST window never shifts. For many families Saturday is a day off, which makes it an easy choice. The guide to timing a session across time zones has more.

Before an online session, send the floor plan with North marked, the compass readings and photographs of every room; the preparation checklist lists the details. Dr. Kimaya studies them, discusses them with you on a video call in English, Hindi, Marathi or Gujarati, and sends a written report, with follow-up as you apply it. If you would rather she saw the home in person, Dr. Kimaya travels for site visits, arranged on the free first call; the analysis and the written report are the same either way. The online Vastu consultation page explains the online service.

प्रश्न Questions

Common questions about Dubai & UAE

What time is an online Vastu session in Dubai time?

Between 7:30 am and 5:30 pm UAE time, Monday to Saturday, which matches 9 am to 7 pm in India. The UAE is 1 hour 30 minutes behind IST all year with no daylight saving on either side, so a slot that suits you once will keep the same local time.

My Dubai apartment has a curved plan. Can Vastu still be applied?

Yes. A curved or angled plan makes placing the zones more careful work, not impossible. Dr. Kimaya orients your plan using your compass readings and photographs, maps each zone, and suggests placement-based remedies that suit the shape, with nothing structural involved.

Can the maid's room be used as a pooja room?

Only if it falls in or near the North-East and can be kept clean and calm. Maid's rooms usually sit beside the kitchen or service entrance, so they more often suit storage, laundry or a study. A small mandir shelf in the North-East of the living room is usually the simpler choice.

Can I light diyas in a UAE apartment?

Check your building's rules first, since many towers have sensitive smoke detectors and restrictions on open flames. Where flames are allowed, light a diya briefly with ventilation and keep it away from detectors and curtains. Where they are not, electric lamps placed in the same directions serve the purpose well.

Is a swimming pool in the South-West of a villa a problem?

It is not ideal, but it is not a reason to worry. Water is preferred in the North, North-East or East. A pool elsewhere is balanced with remedies around it and by keeping the South-West of the house itself heavy and stable. No one is asked to fill in or move a pool.

Do you consult for homes in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah too?

Yes. The same service covers Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah and the other emirates, either as a site visit, which Dr. Kimaya travels for, or online by video call. Send your city with your enquiry on +91 70391 07512 or to [email protected]; the first call is free, and a visit is arranged on it.
