Choosing a Time for an Online Session Across Time Zones
Booking an online consultation with India from Dubai, London, Singapore or New Jersey is mostly arithmetic and a little self-knowledge. Here is how to pick a slot that suits both ends.
By Dr. Kimaya Parikh-Ambekar, Vastu consultant, Andheri East, Mumbai

01
How do you work out the time difference from IST?
Start from Indian Standard Time, which is UTC+5:30 and does not change through the year — India has no daylight saving. That single fact makes planning easier than it looks, because only your side moves.
The rough offsets from IST are: Dubai and the Gulf about 1½ hours behind; Singapore, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur 2½ hours ahead; the UK 4½ or 5½ hours behind depending on British Summer Time; continental Europe an hour further; the US East Coast 9½ or 10½ hours behind; the US West Coast 12½ or 13½; Sydney 4½ or 5½ hours ahead.
Because several countries shift their clocks twice a year and India does not, a slot that worked in July may be an hour out in November. Re-confirm the time in writing before each follow-up rather than assuming last time's slot still holds.
02
Which overlap windows actually work?
Most cities have a usable window of two to four hours against Indian working hours. The trick is choosing the end of that window where you are at your sharpest, not simply the end where you are technically available.
01
Gulf (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Muscat)
The easiest of the lot. Almost the whole Indian working day overlaps with yours; a late-morning or early-evening slot suits most people.
02
Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong
Your late afternoon and evening line up comfortably with the Indian afternoon. Evening sessions after work are straightforward.
03
UK and Europe
Your morning is the Indian afternoon — an ideal pairing. Anything after your mid-afternoon runs into the Indian night.
04
US East Coast and Canada
Your early morning meets the Indian evening. Many people prefer a weekend morning rather than squeezing it before work.
05
US West Coast
The tightest overlap. Your very early morning or your evening, which is the following Indian morning — weekends make this far less painful.
06
Australia and New Zealand
Your afternoon and early evening sit against the Indian late morning and midday. Comfortable at both ends.
03
Why weekend mornings often work better
Because a consultation asks something of you. You have to think, remember, disagree and decide — none of which you do well at 6 am before a commute, or at 11 pm after one.
A Saturday or Sunday morning in your country usually lands in Indian afternoon or evening and leaves you unhurried on both sides. If you are discussing a home, you also have daylight to take fresh photographs if more are needed.
The wider point is simple: choose the slot where you will not be watching a clock. A session taken in a gap between two other obligations is a session half given.
04
How do you avoid the classic booking mistakes?
Almost every mix-up comes from one of five things, and all five are avoidable in a minute.
01
Confirm both clocks in writing
Write the slot as '7:00 pm IST / 2:30 pm London, Saturday 11 October'. Never just 'seven o'clock'.
02
Check your own daylight saving
India does not change its clocks. If yours does, the offset shifts in spring and autumn and your old slot moves.
03
Watch the date line
From Australia, New Zealand and parts of the US, your day and the Indian day are not the same day. Name the date on both sides.
04
Leave a buffer
Keep twenty free minutes after the agreed end. Ending mid-thought because you have another call is a waste of the session.
05
Have a fallback number
Exchange a phone number in advance so a dropped connection is an interruption, not an ending.
06
Test before, not during
Check camera, microphone and signal the day before. Ten minutes lost to technology is ten minutes lost from the conversation.
05
Does the type of session change the timing?
Yes, more than people expect. A tarot reading is a two-way conversation throughout, so you want a slot where you are mentally fresh and able to speak freely — early in your day is usually better than late.
A distant Reiki session is the opposite: it suits a time when you can lie down quietly afterwards and not be needed by anyone. Evening, or a weekend afternoon, works well, and you will not want to drive straight after.
A remote Vastu consultation is the most flexible, because the analysis of your floor plan happens before the call. What you need is an uninterrupted stretch to go through the findings, with the plan open on a second screen or printed beside you.
06
What about auspicious timings and muhurat?
For a consultation, practicality comes first. There is no requirement to find a particular मुहूर्त (muhurat, chosen auspicious time) to talk to a consultant — the conversation is preparatory work, not a ritual.
Timing does become relevant for the things you may do afterwards: a गृह प्रवेश (Griha Pravesh, house-entering ceremony), placing a mandir, or beginning a remedy at home. Those can be discussed and planned during the session itself.
If you would like a particular day or period considered for a decision, numerology is the service that looks at dates in a structured way. That is a separate conversation from when your call is scheduled.

Booking across time zones
Dr. Kimaya Parikh-Ambekar consults online for clients outside Mumbai and outside India, and the slot is fixed to suit your time zone rather than a standard list of hours.
Write to stayblessed@vastukimaya.com or message +91 70391 07512 with your city and two or three windows that genuinely suit you, including whether weekends are easier. The first consultation call is free, and the timing, the way the session runs and the arrangements are all settled on it.
Sessions are held in English, Hindi, Marathi or Gujarati. The office is at A-1304, Naman Premier, Marol Military Road, Andheri East, Mumbai 400059, for anyone who would rather come in person for Vastu work when visiting India.
Questions
Frequently asked
Does India change its clocks for daylight saving?
No. Indian Standard Time stays at UTC+5:30 all year. If your own country shifts its clocks, the gap between you changes twice a year, so re-confirm any repeat slot.
What is the easiest time to call India from the UK?
Your morning. UK mornings fall in the Indian afternoon, which suits both sides. Anything after your mid-afternoon runs into the Indian night and is better avoided.
How do people in the US manage the overlap?
Most choose a weekend morning, which lands in the Indian evening, or a weekday early morning for the East Coast. The West Coast overlap is narrower, so weekends help more.
How long should I keep free for an online session?
Keep a clear stretch with a buffer after it, rather than booking back-to-back. The expected length for your particular session is confirmed on the first call.
Can sessions be held outside Indian working hours?
Slots are agreed case by case with your time zone in mind, so tell us the windows that genuinely suit you. Weekend timings are often easier for clients abroad.
