01
Is something at home quietly bothering you?
If something at home has been bothering you for a while and you cannot quite name it, that is a good reason to look more closely, though not always a reason to book an expert straight away. Many people reach this point slowly. Sleep is lighter than it used to be, one room never feels comfortable, small repairs keep coming, or the family seems more irritable since a move. Nothing is dramatically wrong, yet the house no longer feels like it is on your side.
It is completely normal to wonder whether Vastu has a part in this, and equally normal to feel unsure whether you are overthinking it. This guide is meant to help you sort the two: what you can check and change yourself, what is worth showing to a Vastu consultant, and what belongs with a doctor, a counsellor, a CA or a lawyer before anything else.
02
What are the signs your home needs a Vastu check?
The clearest sign is a pattern that repeats even after you have cleaned, decluttered and repaired. One bad week is life; the same kind of trouble returning month after month, often in the same part of the house, is worth a closer look. Vastu reads a home through the वास्तु पुरुष मंडल (Vastu Purusha Mandala, the grid that maps each zone to a direction and element), so a consultant looks for where the pattern sits, not just what it is.
01
One room nobody wants to use
A bedroom where no one sleeps well, or a study that stays empty while everyone works at the dining table, often points to light, layout or placement in that zone.
02
Problems that began after a move
If sleep, mood or work changed soon after shifting, the new layout is worth comparing with the old one. See problems that started after shifting to a new house.
03
Repairs that keep returning
Leaks, seepage or fittings that break again and again in one area deserve a practical repair first, and then a look at that zone.
04
A home that never feels light
Rooms that stay dim and stuffy even with windows open, or a cluttered, closed-in centre, the ब्रह्मस्थान (Brahmasthan, the centre of the home).
05
Effort that does not seem to land
Work, savings or a business that feel stuck despite steady effort can have many causes. Vastu looks at whether the space supports that effort.
06
Arguments that cluster in one place
If tension flares mostly at the dining table or in one bedroom, the arrangement of that room is worth checking.
03
When is a Vastu consultation most worthwhile?
A Vastu consultation is most worthwhile before a big decision about a space, because that is when advice costs the least effort to follow. Changing a choice on paper is far easier than living with it for years.
If you are not facing a decision and your concern is small, start with the simple checks in small problem or big problem before you book anyone.
01
Buying or booking a flat
Before paying a token amount, so the entrance, kitchen, toilets and master bedroom can be checked against the plan. The checklist before buying a flat in Mumbai is a good first read.
02
Renting a home or an office
Remedies for rented spaces are portable and need no permission from the landlord.
03
Building, redevelopment or renovation
While walls, plumbing and the kitchen platform can still be placed well, rather than corrected later.
04
Opening a shop, clinic or office
The seat of the owner, the cash counter and the entrance shape the working day.
05
A change in the family
A baby on the way, an elderly parent moving in, children starting board exams, or a home becoming quieter after children leave.
04
Which service fits this?
Vastu fits when the concern is tied to the space itself: its directions, layout, light, air and what is placed where. It works on the home, and through the home it supports the people living in it. It does not diagnose illness, settle disputes or repair finances.
If the heaviness seems to sit more in you than in the room, Reiki, a gentle relaxation practice, may suit you better as a starting point. If what you really need is clarity before a choice, a tarot reading can help you think it through. Crystals work as small daily reminders that support either. The guide Vastu, Reiki, tarot or crystals: which one do you need? sets these side by side.
Some problems need someone else first. Cracks, seepage and electrical faults need a building engineer, plumber or electrician. Health symptoms need a doctor, and persistent low mood needs a counsellor. Debt or tax trouble needs a chartered accountant, and a property or family dispute needs a lawyer. Vastu can sit alongside all of these, but it should never delay them.
05
What happens in a Vastu consultation?
A consultation moves from understanding your concern to a written set of remedies you can carry out. With Dr. Kimaya Parikh-Ambekar it usually follows these steps:
01
Distant analysis
Your floor plan, photographs and concerns are studied before anything else.
02
On-site measurement
In Mumbai, the home is measured with a compass to map each zone accurately. Outside Mumbai, the plan and photographs are read online.
03
A detailed discussion
What was found, why it matters and which changes are realistic for your home and budget.
04
A personalised written report
Clear, room-by-room remedies, using pyramids, crystals, colour, metal, salt and Reiki rather than demolition. See Vastu remedies without demolition.
05
Follow-up
A check on how the changes have settled and any adjustments that are needed.
06
How should you prepare before you call?
Preparation is simple: gather your floor plan, a few photographs and a short note of what is bothering you and since when. You do not need to know any Vastu rules beforehand.
Write down which rooms feel uncomfortable, what has changed recently, and whether the home is owned or rented. Note anything you have already tried. If you have no plan, a hand-drawn sketch with the main door marked is a fine start. The online consultation checklist covers the rest.
Above all, come with your real concern, even if it feels small or unrelated. A calm, honest conversation is the most useful part of the process, and it is how प्राण (prana, life energy) and शांति (shanti, peace) in a home are most clearly understood: from the people who live there.
07
When to talk to Dr. Kimaya
Talk to Dr. Kimaya when you have a decision coming up about a home or workplace, or when a concern keeps returning even after you have done the simple things. You do not need to be sure it is a Vastu problem; working that out together is part of the first conversation.
Start with a free first call to describe what is happening. Consultations are on-site across Mumbai from the Andheri East office, and online consultations are available anywhere in India and abroad using your floor plan and photographs. If Vastu is not the right step, you will be told so honestly. She also travels for site visits elsewhere in India and abroad, arranged on the free first call.
Questions
Frequently asked
How do I know if my house has a Vastu problem?
A repeating pattern is the clearest clue: the same kind of trouble returning in one part of the home even after you have cleaned, repaired and decluttered. One difficult week is ordinary life; a room nobody uses or problems that began after a move are worth a closer look.
Should I consult a Vastu expert before buying a flat?
Yes, before buying is one of the most useful times to consult, ideally before you pay a token amount. The entrance, kitchen, toilets and master bedroom can be checked on the plan, and you can compare shortlisted flats calmly.
Can I do Vastu myself without an expert?
You can handle a lot yourself: decluttering, repairing broken items, brightening dark corners and adjusting bed or desk direction. An expert helps with layout issues such as toilet or kitchen placement, cut corners and entrance position, which are harder to judge alone.
Does a Vastu consultation mean breaking walls?
No. Dr. Kimaya's remedies are non-structural, using pyramids, crystals, colour, metal, salt and Reiki. Nothing needs to be demolished, and the remedies suit rented homes as well as owned ones.
Can a Vastu consultation be done online?
Yes. Online consultations use your floor plan, photographs and a video conversation, and suit anyone outside Mumbai or abroad. In Mumbai, an on-site visit with compass measurement is also available.
