Problems Started After Shifting to a New House? What Vastu Checks

01

Why do problems sometimes start after moving house?

Moving house is one of the most unsettling things a family does, even when the move is a happy one. Routines break, money goes out faster than expected, the commute changes, children start new schools and nobody sleeps well for weeks. It is natural to look at the new flat and wonder whether the house itself is the problem.

If you have felt uneasy since shifting, with more illness, more arguments, setbacks at work or simply a sense that the place does not feel like home, you are not imagining the strain. Many families notice it. The useful question is what is really behind it, and what can be done.

02

Is the new house really the cause of the problems?

Sometimes the new house contributes, but often the timing is a coincidence with the ordinary stress of moving. Both can be true at once, so it helps to look at the practical side and the Vastu side separately.

Vastu traditionally sees a home as having its own balance, and a new home as a space you are still settling into. It does not see a house as cursed or unlucky. Every direction and every layout has strengths, and imbalances have remedies.

03

What practical things should you check in a new home?

Check the things that affect health, sleep and mood every day before turning to Vastu. These are easy to miss in the rush of a move.

  • 01

    Damp and mould

Look behind wardrobes, under sinks and on bathroom walls, especially after the monsoon. Damp affects breathing and mood.

  • 02

    Light and air

Rooms that stay dark or stuffy feel heavy. Check whether windows can open and whether curtains block the morning sun.

  • 03

    Noise

Traffic, construction or a lift shaft beside the bedroom can quietly break everyone's sleep.

  • 04

    Wiring and water

Ask an electrician to check earthing and the distribution board, and test water quality if it tastes or smells different.

  • 05

    Unpacked boxes

Months of half-unpacked cartons keep a home in transit. Finish one room at a time.

04

What does Vastu check first in a new house?

A Vastu consultant first checks the main door, the kitchen, the master bedroom, the toilets, the North-East and the centre, because these zones shape daily life most directly. You can begin a rough check yourself with a compass or the direction finder.

  • 01

    Main door

Its direction and pada are checked by compass. North, East and North-East entrances are generally favourable, and others have remedies. See main door Vastu.

  • 02

    Kitchen

South-East is ideal and North-West acceptable, with the cook facing East.

  • 03

    Master bedroom

South-West, with the head towards the South or East while sleeping.

  • 04

    Toilets

Ideally avoided in the North-East and the centre; where they exist, salt, colour and metal remedies help.

  • 05

    Centre and North-East

The ब्रह्मस्थान (Brahmasthan, the centre) kept open, and the North-East kept clean and light.

05

Does it matter if you skipped the Griha Pravesh?

Skipping or shortening the Griha Pravesh does not doom a home, and you can mark a fresh start at any time. Many families shift in a hurry because of a lease date, a redevelopment timeline or a job.

गृह प्रवेश (Griha Pravesh, the house-entering ceremony) is traditionally a way of welcoming a home and setting an intention for life there. If it did not happen, a simple cleansing later still carries meaning: clean the home thoroughly, mop with salt water, light a diya in the North-East, ring a bell through each room and share a meal together. Vastu tips for a new home and Griha Pravesh has the full sequence.

06

What can you change in a new or rented flat without breaking anything?

You can change a great deal without breaking a single wall, because Vastu remedies are non-structural. This matters in Mumbai, where many new flats are rented or still under a builder's warranty.

  • 01

    Rearrange

Move the bed, the study desk or the sofa so that people face East or North and sleep with their heads to the South or East.

  • 02

    Use colour

Cushions, curtains and rugs in colours suited to each direction, without repainting.

  • 03

    Portable remedies

Pyramids, crystals, metal strips and salt bowls can travel with you when you move again. See Vastu for rented flats.

  • 04

    Space cleansing

A home that feels heavy can be cleared gently. Read how to remove negative energy from home.

07

Which service fits this: Vastu, Reiki, tarot or crystals?

For problems after shifting, Vastu is usually the main service, with Reiki Vastu for a home that feels heavy. An electrician, plumber or doctor comes first for anything practical or health-related.

  • 01

    Vastu

A room-by-room check of the new home with a written report of non-structural remedies.

  • 02

    Reiki

Reiki Vastu to clear and settle the space, and Reiki for family members who feel unsettled by the move.

  • 03

    Tarot

Not a way to diagnose a house. A reflective reading can help if you are deciding whether to stay or move again.

  • 04

    Crystals

Placed by direction as part of the remedies, not as a substitute for repairs.

Questions

Frequently asked

Why do I feel uneasy in my new house?

Unease in a new house usually comes from the stress of moving, unfamiliar sounds, poor sleep and unfinished unpacking. Vastu also looks at light, clutter and the balance of key zones. Settling a home with cleaning, light and a simple ritual often helps.

Can a new house bring bad luck as per Vastu?

Vastu does not treat any house as unlucky. It looks for imbalances in particular zones, such as a North-East toilet or a blocked centre, and every one of them has non-structural remedies.

Can I do Griha Pravesh after shifting?

Yes. If the ceremony was missed, many families do a simple house-warming or cleansing ritual after moving in, with cleaning, a diya in the North-East and a shared meal. A priest can advise on a fuller ceremony.

How soon should I get a Vastu check after moving?

A Vastu check is most useful before you finalise furniture placement, ideally within the first weeks. It is still helpful at any later point, since remedies are non-structural.

Can Vastu be checked for a new flat online?

Yes. An online consultation uses a floor plan with North marked, photographs of each room and a compass reading at the main door. The analysis and written report follow the same process as an on-site visit.
