Year-End Office Vastu Reset: Preparing the Workspace for 2027 Planning

01

How do I prepare my office for the new year as per Vastu?

Prepare your office for the new year with a short reset in four steps: clear, repair, refresh and then plan. Most offices can do it in a day or two between about 21 December and the first week of January, before planning meetings begin.

The calendar year turns on Friday 1 January 2027, and for many businesses the last quarter of the 2026-27 financial year runs from January to March. A tidy, well-lit office makes that busy stretch easier to work in. This reset is about the space and the planning; the Diwali tradition of new account books is covered separately in Chopda Pujan and the business new year.

02

What should be cleared from the office before the new year?

Clear out everything that is broken, finished or no longer used: dead equipment, closed files, old calendars and posters, dried plants and stopped clocks. In Vastu, objects that are stuck or broken are associated with stuck work, and in practical terms they simply take up room and attention.

  • 01

    Broken equipment

Printers that no longer work, chairs with broken wheels, tangled chargers and old monitors. Send electronic waste to an authorised recycler.

  • 02

    Closed files

Move closed files to storage in the South-West or West. Keep records for as long as your CA or legal adviser tells you to; never discard them on Vastu grounds.

  • 03

    Last year's paper

Old calendars, expired notices, faded posters and last year's targets sheet. Hang the new calendar on a North, East or West wall.

  • 04

    Dead plants and stopped clocks

Replace dried plants with healthy ones and fix or remove clocks that have stopped.

  • 05

    Drawers and reception

Empty desk drawers of dried pens and old visiting cards, and clear the reception counter of everything except what visitors need.

03

Which parts of the office should be refreshed first?

Refresh the entrance, the North-East and the centre of the office first, because these are the zones that most affect how the space feels as people walk in and move through it.

  • 01

    Entrance and reception

Clean the door and signboard, fix the door closer and keep the area free of cartons. The entrance is the first impression for clients and staff alike.

  • 02

    North-East

ईशान्य (Ishanya, the North-East) is kept light, clean and open. Move dustbins, heavy cabinets and stacked cartons out of it.

  • 03

    Centre

Keep the ब्रह्मस्थान (Brahmasthan, the centre) open; avoid storing furniture or files in the middle of the floor.

  • 04

    South-West

The zone of नैऋत्य (Nairutya) and the earth element suits heavy storage, archives and the owner's cabin.

  • 05

    Repairs everywhere

Replace fused or flickering lights, fix leaking taps in the pantry and washrooms, and repair cracked glass and sticking locks.

04

Which direction should I face while doing business planning?

Face North or East while doing business planning, seated with a solid wall behind you. The North is the direction of कुबेर (Kubera), linked with opportunity and income, and the East is linked with Indra and Surya, growth and fresh ideas.

In the owner's cabin, the desk ideally sits in the South-West part of the room, as explained in owner's cabin Vastu. For team planning sessions, the senior-most person can sit in the South-West of the meeting room facing North or East, with the team across the table; conference room Vastu covers the layout.

Use a compass to check the direction from where you actually sit. If the room only allows you to face South or West, a supported chair, good light and a clear desk still make planning easier.

05

Where should the annual targets board or planner be kept?

Keep the annual targets board or wall planner on the North wall for sales, business and income goals, and on the East wall for learning, team development and brand goals. These are the same walls suggested for a vision board.

Avoid the walls of the pantry, the washroom passage and the space behind the main door, and do not let the board disappear behind cartons. Remove last year's board or sheet once the new one is up, rather than layering one on another.

A board people can read is more useful than an elaborate one. Keep it simple, update it on a fixed day each month, and in a conference room, put the whiteboard on the North or East wall where everyone can see it.

06

Can a rented office be reset without any changes?

Yes, a rented office can be reset without any structural changes, because every step in this checklist is about clearing, repairing, rearranging and lighting. VastuKimaya's remedies are non-structural and portable, so they move with you when the lease ends.

You can shift desks so that people face North or East, bring in earthy colours through chairs, rugs and a single accent wall where the landlord allows it, add plants and good lighting, and keep a Pyrite or Green Aventurine on the desk if you like crystals. In a co-working space, apply the same ideas to your own desk and cabin; office Vastu for business growth has more on rented and shared offices.

07

How can the whole team take part in the reset?

The whole team can take part by setting aside one short hour before the holidays in which everyone clears their own desk and one shared space is assigned to each small group. A shared effort keeps the reset light and makes the office feel like everyone's space.

If the office has a small prayer corner in the North-East, a lamp can be lit there on the first working day, respecting that people in the team follow different beliefs and taking part is optional. Even without any ritual, opening the windows, switching on every light and walking through a clean office together sets a good tone for the year's first meeting.

08

What can an office Vastu reset not do?

An office Vastu reset cannot replace a business plan, a budget or professional advice. Vastu supports order, light and calm in the workspace; decisions about money, tax, investments and hiring belong with your CA, legal adviser and financial advisers.

No reset comes with a promised result. Think of it as preparing the room in which good decisions are easier to make, not as a shortcut around the work itself.

09

When should you consult a Vastu expert for your office?

Consult a Vastu expert when you are moving premises, expanding, or when the owner's cabin, reception or accounts sit in zones you are unsure about and the new year feels like the right time to look closely.

Dr. Kimaya Parikh-Ambekar of VastuKimaya, based in Andheri East, Mumbai, advises on office and commercial Vastu on-site across Mumbai and through distant consultations from floor plans and photographs, with non-structural remedies explained in a written report. You can book an appointment before your planning meetings begin.

Questions

Frequently asked

How do I prepare my office for the new year as per Vastu?

Which direction should I face while doing business planning?

Face North or East, seated with a solid wall behind you. The North is linked with Kubera and opportunity, and the East with growth and fresh ideas. Check the direction with a compass from your seat.

What should be cleared from the office before the new year?

Broken equipment, closed files (moved to storage, kept as long as your CA advises), old calendars and posters, dried plants, stopped clocks and cluttered drawers. Send electronic waste to an authorised recycler.

Where should the annual targets board or planner be kept?

On the North wall for sales, business and income goals, and on the East wall for learning and team goals. Avoid the pantry, washroom passage and the space behind the door, and remove last year's board.

Yes. Clearing, repairing, rearranging desks, lighting, plants and colour through furnishings need no structural work, and VastuKimaya's remedies are portable, so they move with you when the lease ends.

Is there an auspicious date to restart the office after the new year?

Vastu does not fix a date for this. Many offices simply begin the reset in the last working week of December; if you want a muhurat for a new start, consult a priest or a panchang.
