Vision Board Placement as per Vastu

Classical Vastu does not mention vision boards, but its principles about directions and intentions translate naturally to where a vision board can be placed. Each direction is associated with particular qualities, so matching your goals to a wall gives the board extra meaning.

Vision boards are popular with students, Gen Z creators and young professionals — a collage of images, words and goals for the year ahead. In Indian tradition, a similar idea exists as a संकल्प (sankalpa, a heartfelt intention or resolve). The board is simply a visual sankalpa you see every day.

The North wall is ideal for a career, business or money vision board, and the East wall suits study, learning and personal growth. These are the most commonly recommended walls for goal-focused boards.

Relationship goals suit the South-West, creative and fun goals suit the West, and travel or social goals suit the North-West. Most people only need one board, but if you have several themes, these walls help separate them.

Avoid putting a vision board in the bathroom, inside a cupboard, in a cluttered corner or directly behind your headboard. The board should be visible, respected and in a calm space.

A Vastu-friendly vision board is neat, positive, uncluttered and uses images that feel hopeful rather than anxious. Less is often more.

Choose uplifting images, clear words and a few meaningful goals rather than dozens. Use colours that suit the wall: greens and blues for East and North-East growth boards, and warm yellows, peaches or earthy tones for South-West relationship boards. Avoid images of violence, sadness or anything that makes you compare yourself harshly with others.

Students can use a vision board without pressure by focusing on effort, habits and enjoyment rather than only marks or ranks. A vision board should feel encouraging, never frightening.

Instead of only writing a percentage or rank, add pictures of the subjects you enjoy, the skills you want to learn, a sleep routine, time with friends and a hobby. Parents can help children make their boards, but the goals should be the child's own. Pair the board with a study table facing East or North and a calm, tidy room.

If exam stress starts affecting sleep, appetite or mood, talk to a parent, teacher or counsellor — that is a sign to slow down, not push harder.

You activate a vision board by setting a clear intention when you hang it and refresh it by reviewing and updating it regularly. The ritual is simple and personal.
