Which Crystal to Keep Where at Home: A Room-by-Room Guide
Clear Quartz, Rose Quartz, Amethyst, Citrine, Black Tourmaline, Pyrite, Green Aventurine or Selenite — which crystal belongs in which room and direction, and which placements to avoid.
By Dr. Kimaya Parikh-Ambekar, Vastu consultant, Andheri East, Mumbai

01
How do you decide where to place a crystal at home?
Decide where to place a crystal by matching its qualities to the purpose of the room and the Vastu zone it sits in. A calming crystal belongs where you rest, a grounding or protective crystal where energy enters or feels heavy, and an energising crystal where you work or manage money.
Start with one or two crystals for a clear purpose rather than many stones scattered everywhere. Before placing them, find the directions of your home with a compass so you know which corner is North, North-East or South-West.
02
Which crystal should you keep at the main entrance?
Black Tourmaline is the crystal most commonly kept at the main entrance. It is regarded as protective and is believed to absorb negative energy before it enters the home.
- Place one piece on each side of the front door, inside or outside.
- Keep the entrance clean and well lit so the crystal is not sitting among shoes or clutter.
- Cleanse it regularly, as it is believed to absorb heavy energy.
03
Which crystals suit the living room?
Rose Quartz
Creates a soft, warm and welcoming atmosphere for family time and guests.
Clear Quartz
In the North-East or East part of the living room for clarity and freshness. It is also believed to amplify the crystals placed around it.
Selenite
On a window sill to cleanse incoming energy, or in corners that feel dull.
Black Tourmaline
Near the TV, Wi-Fi router or other electronics.
04
Which crystal should you keep in the bedroom?
Amethyst and Rose Quartz are the most suitable bedroom crystals, while energising stones such as Citrine are best kept out.
Amethyst
Near the head of the bed for calm and restful sleep.
Rose Quartz
A pair on the bedside table for harmony in relationships; also suits the South-West zone for love and stability.
Selenite
For a calm, protected feeling in the room.
Avoid Citrine
Its strong, energising quality can be too stimulating for sleep.
05
Which crystals help with study, work and wealth?
Green Aventurine — study table
Placed on the study table or desk for focus and learning, or in the North for career opportunities.
Amethyst — study or meditation room
Supports focus and a calm mind during long study sessions.
Citrine — North zone
Placed in the North, the wealth direction, or on an office desk or cash counter for abundance and motivation. It can also sit in the South-East for financial stability.
Pyrite — desk, cash box or safe
Placed on a work desk, cash counter or safe, in the North zone, or in the reception area of a business for confidence and money flow.
06
Which crystals suit the pooja room and North-East?
Clear Quartz, Amethyst and Selenite suit the North-East and the pooja or meditation corner, as this zone is associated with clarity, wisdom and spiritual growth. Keep the arrangement simple: one or two small, clean pieces beside the pooja rather than a crowded display. Keep the North-East itself light and uncluttered, and avoid heavy stones or large crystal clusters here.
07
Where should you not keep crystals?
- Citrine or other strongly energising stones in the bedroom.
- Crystals inside the toilet or bathroom, unless specifically advised as a Vastu remedy.
- Chipped, cracked or dull, uncleansed crystals anywhere in the home.
- Selenite anywhere it may get wet, such as near a kitchen sink, bathroom or open monsoon window, because it is damaged by water.
- Crystals buried in clutter, where they are neither seen nor cared for.
08
How do you cleanse and care for home crystals?
Cleanse crystals periodically to clear absorbed energies, using a method that suits each stone. Common methods are sound, placing them on a bed of dry salt, moonlight and, for sturdy stones, sunlight or water.
Be careful: some crystals fade in strong sunlight and some, such as Selenite, should never be put in water. Citrine is said by many practitioners to need little cleansing. After cleansing, hold the crystal and set a simple intention for its purpose. At VastuKimaya, crystals are cleansed and then activated with Reiki and Vedic mantras before placement. See our Crystal Therapy page for more on each stone.

When to consult an expert
Consult an expert if you are unsure which crystal suits a specific concern, if you want crystals to balance a Vastu defect, or if you have placed crystals without noticing any change. Dr. Kimaya Parikh-Ambekar of VastuKimaya, Andheri East, Mumbai, selects, cleanses, activates and places crystals by Vastu zone, on-site across Mumbai or through distant consultations using floor plans and photos. Crystal therapy complements, but does not replace, Vastu corrections or medical care.
Questions
Frequently asked
Which crystal is good for the home entrance?
Black Tourmaline is commonly kept at the main entrance, often one piece on each side of the door, to absorb negative energy before it enters.
Which crystal should be kept in the bedroom?
Amethyst near the head of the bed supports calm sleep, and a pair of Rose Quartz on the bedside table supports harmony in relationships. Avoid Citrine in the bedroom.
Where should Pyrite be kept at home?
Keep Pyrite in the North zone, the wealth direction, or on a work desk, cash box or safe. It can also be placed in the South-East for financial energy.
Can I keep many crystals together?
Yes, compatible crystals can be combined, and Clear Quartz is believed to amplify stones around it. Start with a few for a clear purpose rather than crowding a space, especially the North-East.
Can Selenite be cleaned with water?
No. Selenite is damaged by water, so cleanse it with sound, moonlight or by placing it near other cleansing crystals instead.
Do crystals replace Vastu remedies?
No. Crystals work alongside Vastu, not as a replacement, and they complement rather than replace medical care.
