Pyrite for Money and Business: Placement Guide
Pyrite's golden shine has made it a popular prosperity crystal for homes, shops and offices. Where to place pyrite, how to cleanse it safely and how to use it alongside Vastu.
By Dr. Kimaya Parikh-Ambekar, Vastu consultant, Andheri East, Mumbai

01
What is pyrite and why is it linked with money?
Pyrite is a naturally occurring mineral with a brassy, gold-like shine, which is why it is often called 'fool's gold'. Its metallic lustre and sharp, cube-like crystals have long made it a symbol of abundance, confidence and action.
In crystal therapy, pyrite is associated with prosperity, willpower and a practical, protective energy. It is often chosen by business owners, shopkeepers and professionals who want a visible reminder of their goals. At VastuKimaya, pyrite is one of the crystals used to support wealth-related Vastu zones, always as a complement to good Vastu rather than a replacement for it.
02
Where should pyrite be placed at home?
Place pyrite in the North zone of your home, the direction of कुबेर (Kubera, the guardian of wealth). The North is associated with money, opportunities and career flow, so a pyrite cluster here acts as a symbolic anchor for prosperity.
01
North of the living room
A pyrite cluster on a clean shelf or side table on the North side of the room.
02
Near the locker
On or beside the cupboard where money and valuables are kept, ideally with the locker opening towards the North.
03
Home office desk
On the North or East side of a work desk if you work from home.
04
Entrance (with care)
Some people keep a small pyrite near the main door as a welcoming, protective symbol; keep the area tidy and uncluttered.
03
Where should pyrite be kept in an office or shop?
In an office or shop, keep pyrite near the cash counter, on the owner's desk, or in the North zone of the premises. Wealth-supporting crystals such as Citrine and Pyrite are commonly used at cash counters in commercial Vastu.
01
Cash counter
A small pyrite cluster or cube beside the billing counter or cash drawer.
02
Owner's desk
On the desk while you face North or East, which suits decision-making.
03
Accounts section
Near the accounts team or ledger area, placed neatly and not buried under papers.
04
Reception
A single, attractive pyrite piece in the North or East of the reception area.
04
Where should pyrite not be placed?
Avoid placing pyrite in the bedroom, in the toilet or in wet areas. Pyrite is considered an active, stimulating crystal, so it is usually kept out of rooms meant for rest.
01
Bedroom
Its energising quality is not usually recommended near the bed.
02
Bathrooms and kitchen sink areas
Humidity and water can tarnish and damage pyrite.
03
Under clutter
A crystal buried among bills, broken items or dust loses its symbolic role.
04
Within reach of small children
Pyrite pieces are small and sharp-edged; keep them on a high shelf.
05
How do you cleanse pyrite safely?
Cleanse pyrite with dry methods such as sound, a brief spell of sunlight or smoke from incense, and keep it away from water. Pyrite is an iron-based mineral, and moisture or salt water can make it rust, crumble or lose its shine.
This is an important exception. Many crystals are cleansed with salt or water, but pyrite is not one of them. If you like to use salt, place the pyrite on a dry cloth next to a small bowl of dry sea salt rather than burying it in salt.
01
Sound
Ring a bell or a singing bowl near the crystal for a minute.
02
Brief sunlight
Keep it in morning sunlight for a short while.
03
Dry dusting
Wipe it gently with a soft, dry brush or cloth.
04
Intention
Hold the crystal for a moment and restate your goal before placing it back.
06
Which form of pyrite should you choose?
Choose a pyrite form that suits the space and feels right to you. Size matters less than placement, care and a clutter-free setting.
01
Cluster
Suits a living room shelf, reception or cash counter.
02
Cube
Compact and ideal for a desk or locker.
03
Tumbled stone
Easy to carry in a wallet pouch or bag.
04
Bracelet
Some people wear pyrite; remove it before bathing or swimming to protect it from water.
07
Can pyrite work without good Vastu?
Pyrite is most helpful as a complement to good Vastu, not as a stand-alone solution. Think of it as the finishing touch on a well-arranged space rather than the foundation. If the North zone is cluttered, the cash locker faces an unsuitable direction or the entrance is dark and blocked, a crystal alone cannot balance the space.
Start with the basics: keep the North clean and light, position lockers to open towards the North or East, keep the entrance well lit and remove broken items. Then add pyrite as a focused remedy. Financial decisions still depend on planning and professional advice; a crystal is a supportive symbol, not a financial strategy.
Pyrite also sits comfortably alongside other remedies Dr. Kimaya uses, such as Citrine for positivity, activated pyramids and Reiki Vastu. The aim is a balanced space in which every element supports the next, rather than one object carrying all the expectations.
08
When to consult a Vastu expert
Consider consulting a Vastu expert when you want crystals chosen and placed for your specific layout, or when money and business matters keep feeling blocked despite your efforts.
Dr. Kimaya Parikh-Ambekar assesses the property, selects crystals such as Pyrite or Citrine for the relevant zones, cleanses and activates them with Reiki and Vedic mantras, and places them in Vastu-aligned positions, with a follow-up afterwards. Consultations are available on-site across Mumbai from the Andheri East office, or as a distant consultation.
Questions
Frequently asked
In which direction should pyrite be kept?
Pyrite is usually kept in the North, the direction of Kubera and wealth. It can also be placed on a work desk or near the cash counter in an office or shop.
Can pyrite be kept in the bedroom?
Pyrite is generally not recommended in the bedroom because it is considered an active, stimulating crystal. Rose Quartz or Amethyst are gentler choices near the bed.
Can pyrite be washed with water?
No, pyrite should be kept dry because water and salt can make it rust or crumble. Cleanse it with sound, brief sunlight or a soft dry cloth instead.
Can pyrite and citrine be kept together?
Yes, pyrite and citrine are often placed together at cash counters and in the North zone. Both are associated with prosperity and complement each other.
How do I know if my pyrite is real?
Real pyrite is heavy for its size, has a metallic brassy shine and often shows natural cube-shaped crystals. Buying from a trusted source is the simplest safeguard.
