Vastu matters for an IT office because the work depends on focus, clear thinking and collaboration, and the space either supports these or gets in the way. Tech teams spend long hours at screens, often in open-plan floors with heavy electrical loads, glass partitions and little natural light.

IT office Vastu applies the same principles as any office — the main door, seating directions, cash and accounts, conference rooms — and adds attention to what is specific to technology companies: servers, cabling, screen glare and hybrid teams. Most improvements are non-structural and fit neatly into leased commercial spaces in Andheri, Powai, BKC, Thane and other business districts.

IT employees should ideally face North or East at their workstations. These directions are traditionally recommended for concentration, problem-solving and new ideas, which suits development, design and analysis work.

The founder's or leadership cabin is traditionally placed in the South-West of the office, with the leader sitting facing North or East. The South-West is linked with the Earth element and associated with stability, authority and sound decisions.

The desk should have a solid wall behind it, not a glass partition facing a busy corridor. Keep the cabin uncluttered, with files in closed cabinets along the South or West walls. If the South-West is occupied by something else, a cabin in the South or West can be balanced with suitable remedies.

The server room and main electrical equipment are well placed in the South-East, the Fire zone of अग्नि (Agni, the fire deity). The North-West is an acceptable alternative. Servers, UPS systems, electrical panels and network racks all relate to heat and electricity.

Avoid placing the server room in the North-East, which is linked with Water and clarity, or in the centre of the office. Keep server rooms clean, well cooled, well labelled and free of stored cartons. A tidy server room is good for both Vastu and uptime.

Handle cables, screens and glare by keeping everything organised, concealed where possible and comfortable on the eyes. Vastu associates tangled, chaotic arrangements with confusion and stuck energy, and practical experience agrees.

Meeting rooms suit the North-West or West, the reception suits the North, East or North-East near the entrance, and the pantry suits the South-East. Each placement reflects the character of its zone.

Keeping the North-East and the centre open, light and quiet can support a calmer, clearer office. ईशान्य (Ishanya, the North-East) is associated with clarity and wisdom, and the centre, or ब्रह्मस्थान (Brahmasthan), should never be blocked.

In IT offices, the North-East is a good place for a small quiet zone, a meditation or focus room, indoor plants or a water feature. Avoid using it for storage, heavy server racks or a stack of delivery boxes. In the centre, avoid heavy pillars of storage or cluttered hot-desking tables.

For hybrid and remote teams, the same seating principles apply at home: face North or East, keep a solid wall behind you and keep the desk tidy. A home workstation doesn't need an entire room — a well-arranged corner works.

For hot desks in the office, keep shared desks clear at the end of each day so the space resets. Team collaboration zones suit the North-West or West, and quiet focus pods suit the North or East.
