Vastu for Co-working Spaces and Shared Offices
You cannot move the walls of a co-working space, but you can choose your desk wisely. Vastu tips for members picking a seat and for operators planning shared offices in Mumbai.

02
How should you choose a desk in a co-working space?
Choose a desk where you face North or East while working, with a solid wall or partition behind you and a clear view of the entrance to the zone. This combination is associated with support, focus and a sense of security.
01
Face North or East
The North, ruled by कुबेर (Kubera, guardian of wealth), supports opportunities; the East supports growth and fresh ideas.
02
Back to a wall
Avoid sitting with your back to a walkway, door or glass window.
03
Avoid beams and ducts overhead
Exposed beams directly above the chair are traditionally considered pressuring.
04
Stay away from the washroom wall
Choose a seat that does not share a wall with toilets.
05
Natural light
Desks near North or East windows usually feel brighter and fresher.
03
What if you use hot desks with no fixed seat?
If you hot-desk, carry a small portable kit and spend a minute setting up your space each morning, so any desk begins to feel like your own. Consistency matters more than perfection.
Try to choose the same area each day, ideally where you can face North or East. When that is not possible, face the direction that gives you the calmest view and a wall behind you.
01
A crystal
Green Aventurine for opportunity or Clear Quartz for clarity, kept on the North or East side of the desk.
02
A small plant
A healthy desk plant brings life and freshness.
03
A clean start
Wipe the desk and clear leftover papers before you begin.
04
An intention
Write the day's three priorities on a card and keep it in view.
05
Where should the pantry and washrooms be in a co-working space?
The pantry is ideally in the South-East, the Fire zone ruled by अग्नि (Agni), with the North-West as an acceptable alternative. Washrooms are preferably placed in the West or North-West, and kept away from the North-East and the centre.
In an existing building, operators often inherit wet areas fixed by the landlord. Keep them spotless, ventilated and with doors closed, and use remedies such as salt bowls and light colours around them.

When to consult a Vastu expert
Consult a Vastu expert when you are designing or leasing a co-working floor, taking a private cabin for your team, or when a shared office feels heavy and restless despite good facilities. Early advice is easier to apply than corrections after fit-out.
Dr. Kimaya Parikh-Ambekar of VastuKimaya, Andheri East, advises offices and commercial spaces on-site across Mumbai and through distant consultations using floor plans and photographs. Remedies are non-structural, making them practical for leased premises.
