Selenite for Cleansing Spaces and Other Crystals
Selenite is known as The Cleanser — a soft, luminous crystal used to purify rooms and refresh other crystals. Its benefits, Vastu placement, and the one care rule everyone must know: keep it dry.

01
What is Selenite?
Selenite is a soft, translucent white crystal with a fine, silky shine, known in crystal therapy as The Cleanser. It is a form of gypsum and often comes as wands, towers, bowls, plates and lamps.
Its name is linked to Selene, the moon goddess of Greek mythology, a nod to its gentle, moonlike glow. It is one of the eight crystals Dr. Kimaya Parikh-Ambekar works with most often at VastuKimaya, especially for space cleansing.
Because of its delicate, high-vibration quality, Selenite is associated with clarity of mind, peace and a sense of connection with something larger than oneself.
02
What are the main selenite benefits?
The main selenite benefits are cleansing the energy of a space, supporting calm and clarity, and refreshing other crystals. It is used more for spaces and crystal care than as a personal lucky stone.
01
Continuous space cleansing
Believed to purify the energy around it, making rooms feel lighter.
02
Calm and peace
Creates a soft, peaceful atmosphere in bedrooms and meditation spaces.
03
Clarity of mind
Associated with a clearer, quieter mind during prayer or reflection.
04
Cleansing other crystals
Crystals rested on a Selenite plate are traditionally refreshed.
05
Protection
Used to create a sense of a safe, protected space.
03
Where should Selenite be placed as per Vastu?
Selenite is placed on window sills, in the four corners of a room, in the bedroom or in a meditation or prayer area. Unlike many crystals, it is not tied to a single direction; it is chosen for its cleansing role.
01
Window sills
To cleanse incoming energy — but only on sills that stay completely dry, which rules out many monsoon-facing Mumbai windows.
02
Four corners of a room
Small Selenite pieces in each corner are used for complete energy purification.
03
Bedroom
A Selenite tower on a bedside shelf supports calm, protected sleep.
04
Meditation or prayer space
Near the North-East ईशान्य (Ishanya) zone, for a high-vibration, peaceful atmosphere.
05
Near the entrance
Some families place a Selenite piece on an indoor shelf near the main door.
04
Does Selenite need cleansing?
Selenite is traditionally said not to need cleansing, because it is believed to purify energy rather than hold on to it. This is one of the reasons it is so popular for crystal care.
Even so, keep it physically clean. Dust it gently with a soft, dry cloth or a soft brush. Many people also like to refresh it occasionally with sound, such as a brass bell or singing bowl, which is completely safe for this delicate stone.
05
How do you use Selenite to cleanse other crystals?
You cleanse other crystals with Selenite by resting them on a Selenite plate or bowl, or beside a Selenite tower, for several hours or overnight. This is a gentle, water-free cleansing method.
01
Step 1
Place the Selenite plate in a calm, dry spot, such as a pooja shelf or bedside table.
02
Step 2
Rest crystals such as Clear Quartz, Amethyst, Rose Quartz or Green Aventurine on the plate.
03
Step 3
Leave them overnight, and set a simple intention for them to be refreshed.
04
Step 4
Return the crystals to their Vastu positions the next morning.
05
Pairs well with
Black Tourmaline for protection and Clear Quartz for amplifying intentions.
06
Why must Selenite be kept away from water?
Selenite must be kept away from water because it is very soft and water-soluble; it can lose its shine, crack or dissolve if it gets wet. This is the single most important care rule.
Never cleanse Selenite in water or salt water, never place it in a bathroom, and keep it away from humid spots such as kitchens, aquariums and open balconies during the monsoon. In Mumbai's humidity, a closed shelf indoors is safer than a window sill that catches rain. Avoid leaving it in harsh sun for long periods as well.
Selenite is also fragile, so handle wands and towers carefully and keep them out of reach of small children and pets.
07
How does Selenite work with Vastu and Reiki?
Selenite works alongside Vastu and Reiki as a supportive cleansing tool, not as a replacement for Vastu corrections. It helps keep a space fresh after a Vastu analysis or Reiki cleansing.
At VastuKimaya, crystals are chosen for your specific zones and concerns, activated with Reiki healing energy and Vedic mantras, and placed in precise positions. Selenite is often combined with other crystals — for example, Black Tourmaline at the entrance and Amethyst in the bedroom — as part of a balanced plan for the home.
08
When to consult a crystal therapy and Vastu expert
Consult an expert when a space continues to feel heavy despite cleansing, or when you are unsure which crystals suit your home and where they should go. Selenite is gentle, but other crystals benefit from careful placement and activation.
Dr. Kimaya Parikh-Ambekar of VastuKimaya, Andheri East, offers crystal therapy with Vastu and Reiki, on-site across Mumbai or through distant consultations using floor plans and photographs. Crystal therapy complements, and does not replace, medical care for sleep, stress or health concerns.
