Vastu matters for schools and coaching classes because the layout of a learning space shapes how calm, alert and focused students feel. A well-planned institute offers a peaceful, progress-oriented environment for students and teachers, which supports learning, results and goodwill over time.

Vastu treats the place of learning with special care. The goddess of learning, सरस्वती (Saraswati), is traditionally invoked for विद्या (vidya, knowledge), and the directions associated with clarity and growth, the North-East, East and North, are emphasised in classroom planning.

The main entrance of a school or institute ideally faces East or North-East, which are considered auspicious for learning and new beginnings. A North entrance is also supportive.

Where the entrance falls in a less favourable pada, non-structural remedies such as metal strips or pyramids are used.

The reception or waiting area just inside the entrance sets the first impression for parents and students. Keep it bright, with comfortable seating, a notice board of achievements and upcoming events, and a clear path into the classrooms. A cramped, cluttered reception can make even a well-run institute feel stressful, while an orderly one quietly signals care and discipline.

Students should face East or North while studying, and the teacher's desk is placed at the front of the classroom so that the teacher also faces East or North. The East is associated with the rising sun and fresh energy, and the North with clarity and opportunity.

In practice, this means the board is usually on the East or North wall. Where the room shape makes this difficult, face students North-East, East or North as far as the space allows, and keep the board wall uncluttered and well lit.

The library suits the North-East or North, laboratories the North-West or South-East, and administrative and faculty areas the South-West or South.

Light, calm colours such as cream, light yellow, soft green and pale blue suit classrooms and study areas. They keep rooms bright, reduce visual fatigue and support concentration during long hours.

Light yellow is traditionally linked with learning and cheerfulness, green with growth and balance, and pale blue with calm. Very dark shades, harsh reds and busy patterns are usually avoided in classrooms. Accent colours, charts and student artwork can bring in liveliness without overwhelming the space.

Natural light matters as much as paint. Keep windows clean, curtains light and tube lights in good working order, especially in coaching classes that run into the evening.

An existing coaching class can be improved with simple, non-structural remedies that do not interrupt teaching.
