Distance Reiki: How a Session Works When You Are Not in the Room

For people outside Mumbai, abroad, housebound or simply short of time. How a distance session is arranged, what you do at your end, what to expect, and how to judge whether a practitioner is being straight with you.

Distance Reiki: How a Session Works When You Are Not in the Room

01

Who distance sessions actually suit

Distance रेकी (Reiki) work was a niche before it became ordinary, and most people now booking it are not doing so out of preference for the method.

They are outside Mumbai, or outside India. They are caring for someone and cannot leave the house. They are recovering from something and travelling is more than they can manage. Or they simply cannot give up three hours of a working day for a one-hour appointment, which in this city is a real constraint rather than an excuse.

02

How it is arranged

A time is fixed that works in both places, which is the only genuinely fiddly part if you are in a different time zone. You give whatever context you want to give beforehand, usually on a short call.

At the agreed time you settle somewhere you will not be interrupted — a bed, a sofa, a chair — and stay there for the agreed period. You are not required to meditate, concentrate, visualise or do anything in particular. Most people simply lie still, and a good number fall asleep.

Afterwards you speak again, briefly, about anything you noticed. That conversation matters more than people expect, and it is the part that distinguishes a session from a message saying it is done.

  • Agree a fixed time, not a vague window.
  • Silence the phone and tell the household you are not to be disturbed.
  • Lie or sit comfortably, warm enough, with nothing you need to attend to.
  • No equipment, app, candle or preparation is needed at your end.
  • Expect a conversation afterwards, not just a notification.

03

What people report, and what differs from in person

The descriptions people give are broadly the same as for an in-person session: warmth, heaviness in the limbs, deep relaxation, often sleep. Some people feel very little, which is as common remotely as it is in the room.

What genuinely differs is the setting rather than the session. There is no travel at either end, so people tend to be less wound up when it begins and are able to stay still afterwards rather than getting straight into traffic. Against that, a home is harder to keep quiet than a treatment room, and the single most common reason a distance session goes poorly is a doorbell.

04

Being honest about the mechanism

It is worth saying plainly what can and cannot be claimed here. Reiki, in person or at a distance, is a relaxation practice. People commonly report feeling calmer, sleeping better and being less wound up afterwards, and that is a reasonable thing to say.

It is not a treatment for any medical condition, it does not replace medical care, and no responsible practitioner will suggest you stop, delay or reduce anything your doctor has prescribed. Continue your treatment and see your doctor about any medical concern.

05

How to tell whether a remote practitioner is straight

Distance work is easier to do badly, and easier to do dishonestly, because nobody sees what happens at the other end. A few signals are worth watching for wherever you book.

The reassuring signs are specific and dull: a fixed appointment time rather than a vague one, a clear fee, a conversation before and after, and plain answers about what the session involves.

The warning signs are the opposite.

  • Being told something alarming about your energy, followed by an offer to clear it for a fee.
  • Pressure to buy a package of many sessions before you have had one.
  • Any claim to treat, cure or diagnose a medical condition.
  • Any suggestion that you reduce, delay or stop prescribed treatment.
  • No appointment time, no conversation, just a message afterwards saying it is complete.

06

Booking from outside India

Sessions are available from anywhere, and the practical questions are usually about time zones and payment rather than anything else.

A time is picked that is reasonable in both places — early morning or evening in India usually works for the Gulf, Singapore, the UK and North America. Payment can be made by bank transfer, UPI or Razorpay. The first call is free and is used to decide whether this suits you at all, including the possibility that it does not.

Questions

Frequently asked

Do I need to do anything during a distance Reiki session?

No. You rest somewhere comfortable and undisturbed for the agreed time. No meditation, visualisation, equipment or preparation is required.

Does distance Reiki work the same as in person?

People describe broadly the same experiences — warmth, heaviness, deep relaxation, often sleep. Some feel very little, which is as common either way.

What if I fall asleep during a distance session?

That is very common and nothing is lost by it. Many people sleep through the whole appointment.

Can distance Reiki be booked from outside India?

Yes. A time is agreed that suits both time zones, and payment can be made by bank transfer, UPI or Razorpay.

Can Reiki treat a medical condition?

No. It is a relaxation practice used alongside medical care, never instead of it. Continue any treatment your doctor has prescribed.
