Crystals for the Office Desk
A single well-chosen crystal can make a desk feel calmer and more purposeful. A practical guide to crystals for office desk use — which ones, where to place them and how to care for them.
By Dr. Kimaya Parikh-Ambekar, Vastu consultant, Andheri East, Mumbai

01
Can crystals help at an office desk?
Crystals can help at an office desk as gentle reminders of intention and as part of a balanced, Vastu-aligned workspace. In crystal therapy, each crystal is associated with particular qualities, such as clarity, calm or abundance.
At VastuKimaya, crystal therapy complements Vastu and Reiki rather than standing alone. A crystal on your desk will not replace good planning, skill or rest, but many people find that a thoughtfully placed stone makes their workspace feel more centred. It also encourages the habit of keeping the desk clean, which is valuable in itself.
02
Which crystals suit an office desk?
A few crystals are especially well suited to office desks because of their associations with work, focus and prosperity. Choose one to three that match what you need most.
01
Clear Quartz
Associated with clarity and amplifying intentions. A versatile choice for any role.
02
Amethyst
Associated with calm and a quieter mind; helpful for high-pressure roles.
03
Citrine
Associated with positivity and abundance; often used by business owners and sales teams.
04
Pyrite
Associated with prosperity and determination; commonly kept near the cash counter or on a founder's desk.
05
Green Aventurine
Associated with growth, opportunity and concentration; suits students and professionals building a career.
06
Black Tourmaline
Traditionally used as a grounding stone, often placed near computers and electronics.
03
Where should crystals be placed on the desk?
Place crystals on the desk according to Vastu zones, treating the desk itself like a small map. Sit in your chair, note the directions with a compass, and imagine the desk divided into a 3 × 3 grid.
01
North side — career and opportunity
Green Aventurine or Citrine, linked with Kubera and new openings.
02
North-East side — focus and clarity
Clear Quartz or Amethyst in ईशान्य (Ishanya, the North-East), the zone of water and clarity.
03
South-East side — devices
Your computer, phone charger and lamp suit this fire zone; Black Tourmaline can sit beside them.
04
South-West side — stability
Pyrite or a heavier stone here for grounding and steady decisions.
05
Centre — keep clear
Leave the middle of the desk open for your work, echoing the open ब्रह्मस्थान (Brahmasthan, the centre).
04
Which direction should you face while working?
You should ideally face East or North while working, as these directions are associated with fresh ideas and opportunities. Crystals work alongside your seating, not instead of it.
Sit with a solid wall behind you rather than a door or window, and avoid a beam above your chair. Owners and senior decision-makers are traditionally seated in the South-West of the office facing North or East. If you cannot change your seating in a shared office, crystals and colour accents on the desk become even more useful.
05
How do you cleanse and care for desk crystals?
Cleanse desk crystals before first use and then every few weeks, because an office sees many people, conversations and deadlines. At VastuKimaya, crystals are cleansed with salt, sunlight or sound and activated with Reiki and Vedic mantras.
01
Sound
A small bell or a singing-bowl recording for a minute is discreet and office-friendly.
02
Salt
Place crystals beside a bowl of rock salt overnight at home; avoid soaking porous or metallic stones such as Pyrite.
03
Gentle light
Soft morning light suits many stones. Amethyst and Citrine may fade in long, strong sunlight.
04
Dust regularly
Wipe crystals with a soft dry cloth when you clean your desk.
05
Set a work intention
Hold the crystal for a moment at the start of the day and think of what you want to accomplish.
06
What should you avoid when using crystals at work?
Avoid overcrowding the desk, using chipped or broken crystals, and placing crystals where they create clutter or distraction. A few well-chosen stones are more effective than a collection.
01
Too many crystals
More than three on a small desk can feel busy. Rotate them instead.
02
Broken pieces
Replace cracked or chipped stones respectfully.
03
Sharp points at people
Point crystal wands upward or away from colleagues' seats.
04
Ignoring office policies
In shared spaces, keep crystals small and discreet, and respect colleagues' preferences.
07
Do crystals work for work-from-home desks too?
Yes, the same principles apply to work-from-home desks. In fact, crystals are especially useful at home to mark a clear boundary between work and personal life.
Place your home desk so you face East or North, keep the work crystal on the desk only, and cover or put away work items when the day ends. Avoid placing your work desk in the bedroom where possible; if you must, keep the desk away from the bed and choose calming Amethyst rather than energising Citrine.
08
When to consult a crystal therapy expert
Consult a crystal therapy expert if you are unsure which crystal suits your role or concern, or if you would like a full office or cabin assessment. Dr. Kimaya Parikh-Ambekar selects crystals according to your Vastu zones, cleanses and activates them, and guides you on exact placement.
You can visit the Andheri East office, request an on-site visit to your office anywhere in Mumbai, or share photographs and a floor plan for a distant consultation.

Which crystal is good for concentration at work?
Clear Quartz, Amethyst and Green Aventurine are commonly used for concentration at work. Place them on the North or North-East side of your desk.
Which crystal is good for business growth on the desk?
Citrine and Pyrite are traditionally associated with abundance and business growth. Keep them on the North or South-West side of the owner's desk.
Where should I keep Black Tourmaline on my desk?
Black Tourmaline is usually kept near your computer or electronics, on the South-East side of the desk, as a grounding stone.
How many crystals should be kept on an office desk?

No, crystals complement Vastu rather than replacing it. Seating direction, entrance, cabin placement and clutter all still matter.
