Crystal Tree and Crystal Balls in Vastu
Crystal trees and crystal balls are popular gifts and décor pieces. Here is how crystal tree Vastu works — which crystal suits which zone, how to cleanse it and where to avoid placing it.
By Dr. Kimaya Parikh-Ambekar, Vastu consultant, Andheri East, Mumbai

01
What is a crystal tree in Vastu?
A crystal tree is a small decorative tree whose leaves are made from tumbled crystal chips, usually set on wire branches with a crystal or cement base. In Vastu and crystal therapy it is used as a gentle energy object, placed in the zone that relates to the quality you want to support.
The tree shape itself carries meaning. Trees symbolise growth, rootedness and steady expansion, so a crystal tree is often chosen for new beginnings — a new home, a new business, a child starting college. Because it is portable, it suits rented flats and offices where structural changes are not possible.
02
Which crystal tree suits which direction?
Each crystal suits a particular direction because Vastu links each direction with a deity, an element and an area of life. Matching the crystal's qualities to the zone is the heart of crystal tree Vastu.
01
North — Citrine or Green Aventurine
The North is the zone of Kubera and new opportunities. Citrine is associated with abundance and positivity; Green Aventurine with growth and career.
02
North-East — Amethyst or Clear Quartz
ईशान्य (Ishanya, the North-East) is linked with water, clarity and spiritual calm. Amethyst and Clear Quartz support a peaceful, reflective feeling.
03
East — Green Aventurine or Clear Quartz
The East, associated with Indra and the rising sun, supports health, fresh starts and social connections.
04
South-West — Rose Quartz
The South-West is the earth zone of stability and relationships. A Rose Quartz tree is often chosen for harmony between partners.
05
South-East — Red Jasper or Carnelian
The fire zone of Agni relates to energy and cash flow. Warm-toned crystals are sometimes used here, kept away from the stove.
03
What are crystal balls used for in Vastu?
Crystal balls are used in Vastu to gather and spread balanced energy evenly in a space. The round shape has no sharp edges, so it is associated with harmony, completeness and smooth movement of energy.
A Clear Quartz ball is the most versatile choice. It is often placed in the North-East of the home or on a centre table in the living room, where it can catch natural light. A Rose Quartz ball suits the South-West bedroom, and an Amethyst ball can be kept in a study or meditation corner.
You may also see faceted glass balls hung in windows to scatter rainbows of light. That idea is more closely associated with Feng Shui, which is a separate tradition. In Vastu, natural crystals are generally preferred.
04
Where should you avoid placing a crystal tree or ball?
Avoid placing crystal trees or balls in toilets, under staircases, on the floor or inside cluttered cupboards. Crystals are treated as energy objects, so they should be kept somewhere clean, visible and respected.
01
Not in bathrooms
Toilets are zones of release and disposal, not places to amplify energy.
02
Not facing the bed directly
A large, sparkling ball directly in line with the bed may feel stimulating. Keep bedroom crystals to the side.
03
Not in harsh afternoon sun
Some crystals, including Amethyst and Rose Quartz, may fade with long exposure to strong sunlight. Also avoid focusing sunlight through a clear ball onto fabric or paper.
04
Not in the centre of the floor
Keep the Brahmasthan (centre) open. A small ball on a centre table is fine; heavy displays in the middle of the floor are not.
05
How do you cleanse and activate a crystal tree?
Cleanse a crystal tree before first use and then regularly, using methods that do not harm the wire and base. At VastuKimaya, crystals are cleansed with salt, sunlight or sound and then activated with Reiki and Vedic mantras before placement.
01
Sound
Ring a bell or singing bowl near the tree for a minute. This is safe for every type of crystal tree.
02
Salt nearby
Place the tree beside a bowl of rock salt overnight rather than burying it, as salt can corrode the wires.
03
Gentle morning light
A short time in soft early sunlight suits many crystals. Avoid strong midday sun for colour-sensitive stones.
04
Set an intention
Hold the tree, breathe slowly and think clearly about what you hope the space will feel like.
06
Can you keep a crystal tree in the office?
Yes, a crystal tree can be kept in the office, and it is one of the simplest portable remedies for a workplace. A Citrine or Green Aventurine tree in the North of the office or reception supports a sense of opportunity and growth.
On a personal desk, a small Clear Quartz or Amethyst tree on the North-East side of the desk can support calm focus. Keep it dusted, and replace it if the chips fall off or the tree looks tired — a neglected crystal sends the opposite message to the one you intend.
07
Are crystal trees a substitute for correcting Vastu defects?
Crystal trees are a supportive remedy, not a complete substitute for correcting significant Vastu defects. They work well for fine-tuning a zone or bringing a positive intention into a room.
A toilet in the North-East, a kitchen in the North-East or a heavy centre usually needs a combined approach — for example pyramids, metal strips, colour correction and crystals together. Crystal therapy complements Vastu and Reiki; it is part of a larger plan rather than a single answer. It also does not replace medical care for any health concern.
08
When to consult a crystal therapy expert
Consult an expert if you are unsure which crystal suits your concern, or if you have received several crystal gifts and do not know where to keep them. Dr. Kimaya Parikh-Ambekar selects crystals according to your Vastu zones, cleanses and activates them, and shows you exactly where to place them.
You can visit the Andheri East office, request an on-site visit anywhere in Mumbai, or share your floor plan and photographs for a distant consultation.
Questions
Frequently asked

Which crystal tree is good for money as per Vastu?
A Citrine or Green Aventurine tree placed in the North is commonly used for money and opportunities. Keep the North zone clean and uncluttered for it to feel supportive.
Is a crystal tree a good gift?
Yes, a crystal tree is a thoughtful gift for a new home, office or wedding. Include a note on which direction it suits so the recipient can place it correctly.
Where should a Clear Quartz crystal ball be placed?
A Clear Quartz ball is usually placed in the North-East or on a centre table in a bright living room. Avoid direct harsh sunlight, which a clear ball can focus.
How often should crystals be cleansed?
Cleanse crystals every few weeks, and also after an argument, illness in the family or a large gathering. Sound cleansing with a bell is easy to do regularly.
