East-Facing Flat Vastu: Strengths and Layout Tips

An east-facing flat is one whose main entrance door opens towards the East — that is, when you step out of the flat, you are facing East. This is the most common way Vastu defines facing, although some people refer to the direction of the building's road or balcony instead.

Because different definitions are used, always confirm with a compass. Stand just inside the main door, facing outwards, and take a reading away from metal grills and electrical boxes. In Mumbai, many buildings are slightly tilted, so a flat may face East-North-East or East-South-East, which makes a real difference to the analysis.

Commonly used approaches include salt therapy, activated pyramids, metal strips, colour adjustments, crystals and Reiki space healing. These are portable and suitable for rented homes and society flats where structural changes are not possible.

Before buying or renting an east-facing flat, check the exact compass direction, the entrance pada, and the placement of the kitchen, toilets and master bedroom. Also look at practical factors: whether neighbouring buildings block the morning light, the condition of the balcony, and signs of seepage or leaks.

Walking through the flat in the morning gives a good sense of how much light actually enters. If possible, ask for the floor plan so it can be reviewed before you commit.
