Tarot vs Astrology vs Numerology: What Is the Difference?

The core difference is what each one starts from. A tarot reading starts from the question you are holding right now and from cards drawn in that moment. Astrology starts from fixed data — the date, time and place of your birth — and reads planetary positions calculated from it.

That difference shapes how each is used. Tarot suits a live, specific question: 'I am deciding between two things and I am stuck.' Astrology is more often consulted for broad life patterns and timing traditions. Numerology sits somewhere between, working from your name and date of birth.

Tarot is a deck of illustrated cards, used here as a structured prompt for reflection. Dr. Kimaya reads the Rider–Waite–Smith deck of 78 cards. The reader lays out a spread, and each position stands for a part of the situation — what is behind it, what is pressing on it now, what you may not be seeing.

The cards do not tell you what will happen. Their images and themes give you language for things you may already sense but have not articulated. Cards are also read reversed, which softens a theme or turns it inward — a delay, or something known but unspoken — rather than signalling anything bad. A good session feels like a clear-headed conversation, not an announcement.

Astrology is a much older and much larger tradition, in which the positions of planets at your birth are mapped into a chart and interpreted. In India it is known as ज्योतिष (Jyotish, the science of light), with its own vast literature, and it is practised quite separately from tarot.

Numerology works with numbers — your date of birth, the letters of your name reduced to values, house and flat numbers, vehicle and mobile numbers. From these, practitioners derive figures such as a life path number and look at how they interact.

In practice, numerology is most often used for name spellings, choosing dates for beginnings, and small adjustments to a house number display or a signboard. It is a calculation-based tradition, so two practitioners working from the same system will usually arrive at the same numbers, even if their interpretation differs.

Each works from different inputs and answers different kinds of questions. Seeing them in one list makes the choice much easier.

Choose by the shape of your question. If you are stuck on a specific decision this month, a reading gives you a focused hour on exactly that. If your question is about a name, a date or a number, numerology is the more direct fit.

If your question is really about your home or workplace — a room that never feels right, an office where meetings go badly — then neither tarot nor numerology is the first tool. A Vastu review of the space looks at direction, light, layout and clutter, and its remedies are practical and non-structural.

None of these should be used to decide medical treatment, legal strategy or where to put your money. A reading or a chart is not a diagnosis and not professional advice, and no responsible practitioner will present it as one.

Be cautious of anyone who promises specific outcomes, names dates for events, claims to remove a problem permanently, or pressures you into repeat sessions or expensive objects. Reflection should leave you feeling more capable of deciding, not more dependent. If a session leaves you frightened, that is a reason to step away.
