Ideal Direction for the Mandir
The North-East corner (Ishan Kona) is the most sacred and auspicious zone in any Vastu space. It receives positive energy from both the North (Kubera — wealth) and the East (Indra — power and vitality). The Mandir should ideally be placed in the North-East corner of the home.

Key Vastu Rules for the Pooja Ghar
- The Mandir should be in the North-East, North or East of the home.
- Never place the Mandir inside a bedroom or above or below a toilet.
- The idol or image should face East or West — the worshipper should face East or North.
- Idols should not be placed against the South or West wall.
- Idols in a home Mandir should not exceed 9 inches in height.
- Keep only active, living energy in the Mandir — remove broken idols and old, faded images.
- The Mandir should be raised, not at floor level — ideally between waist and eye level.
- Natural materials such as wood, marble or stone are preferred.
- Keep the space clean, fragrant and lit with a diya.
- Never store non-pooja items, medicines or money in the Mandir.

Can the Mandir be in the kitchen?
It is acceptable only if the Mandir is in the North-East corner of the kitchen, but ideally it should be in a separate, dedicated space.
What if my North-East is occupied by a bathroom?

Can we keep photos of deceased family members in the Mandir?
